How do we learn about historical women?

Turns out it's very difficult... Most women weren't written about unless they were married or related to an important male figure... even then they were just a footnote.

Letters kept from the revolutionary war is the main source, so it kinda sucks when someone like Martha Washington burns all her letters before death.

The American Revolution was never just powdered wigs and dramatic speeches.

While the Founding Fathers were debating liberty, women were:

running businesses
smuggling intelligence
supplying militias
defending homes
and occasionally holding Loyalists at gunpoint.

Then history mostly forgot them.
