Consider your options when Open enrollment times rolls around. Choose what’s best for you or if you help someone decide, please choose wisely!
Traditional Medicare with a supplement would be my recommendation 99.9999999% of the time. This is not the same as a Medicare advantage plan-so don’t let anybody tell you it is!

Medicare recipients: Its September which means you'll soon be getting a very important piece of mail...

Your "Annual Notice of Change" is a letter mailed in September to anyone who has a Medicare Advantage OR Prescription drug plan.

You see...

These are "contract year" plans, so they can (and do!) change from year to year.

Sometimes they change just a little bit and sometimes more.

Your ANOC letter describes exactly how your Medicare plan is changing for 2024.

Note: There is no ANOC for Medicare Supplement plans because they are federally standardized.

Once you have your ANOC letter you will know whether you need to take any action during the annual enrollment period from October 15 - December 7.

If you do nothing, you'll continue on the same plan next year.

But if you do want to look at other options

Since selling life and Medicare insurance, I have learned quite a bit about the Medical Information Bureau (MIB). I'd advise any of you to request a copy of what the MIB has in their database about your health information. This is a database that is shared amongst insurance companies and contains health info such as diagnosis and other health-related information. They also have an RX database to see what your medication history looks like. I would request a copy of what they have in the MIB database and then dispute any incorrect information.

Upon receipt of a request from you, MIB will arrange the disclosure of any information in your file. Please contact MIB at 866-692-6901. If you question the accuracy of the information in MIB's file, you may contact MIB and seek a correction in accordance with the procedures set forth in the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act. The address of MIB's information office is 50 Braintree Hill Park, Suite 400, Braintree, Massachusetts 02184

Naming a Minor as a Beneficiary: What are the Problems?
Consider some of the alternatives...
Did you know:
Naming a child or children as beneficiaries of a life or annuity policy can make the claim process very complicated upon the death of the named insured?

This is especially true if that child is a minor or under the age of majority. A minor is not entitled to receive the gift or share of the deceased estate until they reach the age of 18 or 21, depending on state law.

Because minor children cannot directly receive the proceeds of the life or annuity policy, the named owner can designate an adult to manage the money until the minor is old enough to be responsible for it. If an adult is not designated as the legal guardian, the insurance carrier would require guardianship paperwork for the estate of the minor, which could be a lengthy and costly process.

At most insurance carriers , without documentation of a guardian or conservator for the child, the funds are held in an account until the minor reaches the age of majority which, depending on the age of the child at the time of the policyholder’s death, could be several years.

What are some of the alternatives to naming a child as a beneficiary?

Below are three options available to policyholders:

Name an adult guardian
Example: (guardian/custodian name) as custodian for (minor’s name)

Open a Uniform Transfers to Minors Act (UTMA) account

Establish a trust for the minor.

Have you ever thought about setting your child or grandchild up a life insurance policy? Contact me for a review of all of your options! Purchasing when they are young ensures lower premiums that can remain low for their life and by purchasing when they are young, it doesn't matter how their health is in the future, because they will already have their policy in place.

It's never too soon or too late to talk about life insurance. Submitted new policies this week for an infant and a toddler - a plan that will have death benefits as well as life benefits! Do you have a 401k or 403b plan with a former employer that you'd like to move? Ask me about information!

• TERM LIFE - considered the lowest cost option that covers for a defined period of time.
• FINAL EXPENSE - simplified plans for seniors to help cover burial costs and other final expenses.
• CHILDREN'S LIFE - guarantees the child's future insurability at a low cost.
• WHOLE LIFE - level premiums, death benefit and build cash value, but cost is higher.
• UNIVERSAL LIFE - permanent policies that offer a variety of solutions with flexible death benefits, cash value and premium.
• LIVING BENEFITS - these are available on many policies today and can provide access to your death benefit during your lifetime in the event of a terminal, chronic or critical illness or injury. These funds may be used to cover medical costs, additional care or other expenses.
