Home prices rose 13.2% in the Seattle area from August of 2016 to 2017. Only double digit gain in the 20 cities surveyed. Happy for the appreciation. Not so much for the traffic.

Seattle and Portland are the only double digit year over year increases for the cities surveyed.

This number is watched closely by financial analysts because it provides insight into the direction of the economy. Higher initial claims correlate with a weakening economy.Lower initial claims correlate with a strengthening economy. What is good for the economy is usually bad for rates. Something to be aware of.
