Insurance bound and FMCSA filing visible are two different clocks. The binder starts coverage; the electronic filing is what clears the authority gate. Track both.

Important change for CDL and CLP holders: as of October 12, 2026, a paper medical card is no longer accepted as proof of medical certification anywhere except Alaska. Inspectors and employers now check the electronic record on your state driver record (MVR). Before your next roadside inspection or new job, confirm that your medical certification shows up there. If it does, you do not need a new physical just because the paper exemption ended. Alaska has a provisional paper extension through October 12, 2027. - 1 Truck Insurance Services

CVSA counted the July week. Speeding was still first.
Commercial drivers: 3,409 warnings and 1,956 citations (July 12–18). Speeding alone: 772 warnings, 342 citations.
Those tickets land on the MVR the renewal file already has to explain. Pull the driver list now. Match citations to the file before the underwriter does.

Oct 6 was the hard date on revoked ELDs.
If the device is off FMCSA’s registered list, it is not a backup. It is no record of duty status under 395.8(a)(1). Officials cite that and place the driver out of service under CVSA criteria.
Control move: match the ELD identifier on the dash to the registered list before the next inspection. Paper logs were the bridge. That bridge is closed on the revoked set.

IFTA Q3 returns are due October 31. This year that is a Saturday, so the deadline moves to Monday, November 2.
Do not wait for it. Pull your ELD mileage by jurisdiction now, and reconcile it to your fuel records.

FMCSA has opened public comment on two hours-of-service pilot programs. These are research tests, not rule changes, and your hours stay the same today. One pilot would let drivers split sleeper berth time 5 and 5, or 6 and 4, for 10 hours off duty in total. The other would pause the 14-hour window for 30 minutes to 3 hours at a pickup or delivery. Each pilot is expected to include about 256 drivers, and the tests are aimed at 2027. Comments are open through December 7.

Two clocks are live. Do not mix them.
Fuel: gasoline and diesel only, through December 16. Driving is capped at 16 hours in any 24-hour period.
Regional emergency: automatic relief is now 30 days after the declaration, effective October 5.
Confirm the operation qualifies under the applicable document before you use the exception.
