Here are 5 signs your business budget may not be working and how to fix it 👇

1️⃣ You’re constantly surprised by expenses

If unexpected expenses keep throwing everything off, your budget probably isn’t accounting for the real rhythm of your business.

✔ Fix: Review the last 6–12 months of expenses and build in a buffer for seasonal or irregular costs.

2️⃣ You don’t actually know if you’re profitable

You can bring in money consistently and still feel broke if your expenses are eating everything up.

✔ Fix: Track ALL expenses clearly so you know what’s truly left after your business pays its bills.

3️⃣ Your budget is outdated (or only exists in your head)
If your business has changed but your budget hasn’t… your numbers are no longer helping you make smart decisions.

✔ Fix: Update your budget regularly as your services, pricing, clients, or expenses evolve.

4️⃣ You’re making decisions without checking the numbers

If you’re making moves based on pressure or emotion instead of data, things can get risky fast.

✔ Fix: Use your budget to test “what if” scenarios before making major decisions.

5️⃣ You’re constantly hustling, but still feel stuck
This is one of the biggest signs something’s off.

Sometimes the issue isn’t effort, it’s that your money isn’t flowing in a sustainable way.

✔ Fix: Look closely at what’s actually producing profit and what’s draining your time, energy, and revenue.

The goal of budgeting is giving your business a plan that actually supports growth.

And if your budget feels overwhelming right now, you do not have to figure it out alone.

“I have my car, steady employment, own apartment, and by the way my credit score is 700 already. That’s all due to some of your previous classes at Pathway that helped guide my decisions.” - Tyrone Hill

”The residents that attend enjoy the class, and are not afraid to ask questions, and stay after class if needed. They are aware of saving money, and not spending it frivolously. It gives them the opportunity to start making changes in their lives.” - Eddis Jackson (TCKC)

These are just few of the many stories that act as reminders of what’s possible when people have access to the right support and guidance.

Financial empowerment is NOT just about money… It’s about having the confidence to create a future that feels good to you.

And if they can do it, so can you.

If you don’t know where to start, don’t worry, we’re here to help you.

This summer, we’re proud to partner with UMB Bank to co-host 2 Professional Development Days for high school interns participating in the ProX Program.

Taking place on June 8th and June 15th, these interactive sessions are designed to help students learn the basics of banking, managing money responsibly, preparing financially for college as well as building healthy credit habits.

Now in its 5th summer cycle, ProX connects Kansas City-area high school students with paid internships and work-based projects across 20 different industries from June 1st till July 2nd.

A total of 642 interns are participating in the program (which includes students from grades 9–12, from 81 schools across 44 districts).

Students will have the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally through hands-on learning.

We’re grateful to UMB Bank for partnering with us to help make financial education more accessible for the next generation 🙏🏽

Through working with Angelique Cheatem and the Pathway Financial Education team, Kiah learned how to budget intentionally, take control of her finances and work toward her goals with confidence.

And that led to her hitting major milestones like paying off debt and buying her first car.

We’re so proud of you, Kiah! 👏 This is WHY we do what we do 💙

Behind every workshop, coaching session, and conversation is a real person looking for guidance for a better financial future.

And we’re here to provide that.

Most people avoid estate planning because it feels like something they’ll handle later.

But having the right plan in place is one of the most important ways to protect the people you love.

Without the proper documents, families are often left dealing with difficult decisions, legal delays and unnecessary stress during already emotional times.

A living will and estate plan can help you:

✔ Make your wishes clear

✔ Protect your children and assets

✔ Give your family peace of mind

✔ Create clarity when it matters most

That’s why we’re hosting our upcoming Estate Planning Workshop to help make this process easier to understand and to start.

This hybrid workshop (join in-person or on Zoom) will guide you through how to put the right documents in place.

Attendees will receive a FREE 1-hour consultation with an attorney from Creative Planning (including preparation of a Power of Attorney document) at NO COST TO YOU.

Most small business owners are figuring it out as they go, without clear guidance on what lenders are actually looking for.

So they work hard… apply for funding… and get turned down.

Not because they lack potential, but because they lack positioning.

Funding is about understanding how lenders think, knowing your numbers and finding the right opportunities for your business.

That’s exactly what we’re breaking down in our upcoming workshop, led by Neel Campbell.

The best part is that it’s designed to fit into your life (join in person or virtually, it’s hybrid).
