Dental and vision are the two things people skip and then regret in a very specific way.

Most health plans do not include adult dental. Most do not include an eye exam and glasses. People assume they do until the bill arrives.

A standalone dental or vision plan is a separate, much smaller policy. It is not glamorous. It is the coverage clients thank me for.

If you already have health coverage through me and never asked about dental, ask. It takes about ten minutes to sort out.

Formulary. It is one of the least known words in insurance and it quietly decides what your prescriptions cost.

A formulary is the plan's list of covered drugs, sorted into tiers. Lower tier, lower cost to you. If your medication is not on the list at all, you may pay the full price yourself.

Two plans with the same monthly premium can treat the same prescription completely differently.

This is why I ask for your medication list before recommending anything. Not to be nosy. Because the formulary is where the money actually sits.

Health coverage has a door that is usually closed and occasionally opens. Here is what opens it.

Losing coverage. Getting married or divorced. Having a baby or adopting. Moving to a new county or state. Turning 26 and coming off a parent's plan. A change in income that affects your eligibility.

Each one starts a 60-day clock.

If any of this happened to you in the last month or two, do not sit on it. Send me a message and I will tell you where you stand.

Moving to Florida is a qualifying life event. That is the good news.

The part people miss is that your old plan usually does not come with you. Marketplace plans are sold county by county. A plan that worked fine in Ohio may not have a single in-network hospital near Jupiter.

Snowbirds ask me about this constantly. If you spend half the year here and half somewhere else, the question is not which plan looks good on paper. It is which plan actually covers you in both places.

There is a real answer to that. It depends on your plan type and your doctors.

Losing job-based coverage opens what is called a Special Enrollment Period, or SEP. It is a 60-day window to enroll in a Marketplace plan outside the normal Open Enrollment season.

Sixty days sounds like plenty. It goes fast when you are also job hunting.

Two things people miss. The clock usually starts the day your coverage ends, not the day you get around to dealing with it. And COBRA is not your only option - it is worth comparing before you assume.

If you or someone you know just lost coverage, get the clock counted correctly.

Being your own boss is great - until it's time to figure out health insurance on your own.

No HR department. No group plan. Just you, trying to make sense of ACA marketplace options.

Here's the good news: most self-employed people qualify for a subsidy that brings the monthly cost down a lot more than they expect.

I help self-employed clients compare plans, estimate their subsidy, and pick coverage that actually fits their income - which can change month to month when you're 1099.

It's a free service, and it usually takes less than 20 minutes.

Most people think you can only get health insurance during Open Enrollment.

That's not true.

If you've had a qualifying life event, you have a Special Enrollment Period β€” meaning you can enroll in a health plan RIGHT NOW, any time of year.

Qualifying events include:
πŸ’ Getting married
πŸ‘Ά Having or adopting a baby
πŸ’Ό Losing job-based coverage
🏠 Moving to a new state
πŸ“‹ Losing Medicaid eligibility

You have 60 days from the event to enroll. Don't let that window close.

I get it β€” health insurance feels expensive, especially when you're healthy.

But here's what I see happen to people who skip it:

❌ One ER visit = $2,000–$20,000+ out of pocket
❌ A surprise diagnosis with no coverage = financial crisis
❌ No preventive care = small problems become expensive ones
❌ Paying the full cost of prescriptions with no negotiated rates

Here's the part most people don't know:
Through the ACA, many people qualify for plans that cost less than going uninsured when you factor in one unexpected medical event.

I've had clients tell me they were paying more in one urgent care visit than their entire monthly premium.

A 15-minute conversation with me could change the math entirely β€” for free.

If I've ever helped you or someone you know with health insurance β€” thank you. That means the world to me.

I built my business on referrals, and every single one comes from someone who trusted me enough to share my name.

So here's my ask:

πŸ‘‰ If you know anyone who needs health insurance β€” ACA, Medicare, dental, or vision β€” please share this post or send them my contact info.

I offer free consultations, no sales pressure, and no fees. Ever.

Every week I get questions about health insurance. Here are the top 3 I'm answering right now:

❓ "When can I sign up for health insurance?"
➑️ If you have a qualifying life event (job loss, marriage, new baby), you can enroll anytime. Otherwise, ACA Open Enrollment is November 1 – December 15

❓ "How do I know which plan is right for me?"
➑️ It depends on your doctors, prescriptions, and how often you use healthcare. I compare plans side-by-side for free so you don't have to guess.

❓ "Is it really free to use an insurance agent?"
➑️ Yes. Insurance agents are paid by the carriers, not by you. Using me costs you nothing and can save you significant time and money.

Have another question? Drop it in the comments β€” I'll answer every one.
