There’s an important change happening with Medicare Part D for 2027 that’s worth paying attention to.

The temporary program that helped stabilize premiums for participating standalone Part D plans is 𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈.

Does that automatically mean your premium will skyrocket? No.

But it does mean you shouldn’t assume what you paid this year will be the same next year.

Not so fast! 🫢 Seeing your medication on a plan's drug list is a great start, but it doesn't tell you everything you need to know.

What tier is it on?
What will you actually pay for it?
Does the plan require prior authorization before it will cover it?
Is there step therapy, meaning you may need to try another medication first?
Is there a quantity limit on how much the plan will cover at one time?
And could filling that exact same prescription at a different pharmacy change what you pay?

THAT'S why we don't just search for the name of your medication, see a little checkmark, and call it a day.

When you get your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) from your current Medicare plan, don't feel like you need to sit down and read the whole thing cover to cover.

Start with the Summary of Important Costs and the sections that explain changes to your benefits and costs for next year.
That's where you can start spotting the things that could actually affect you.

Did your premium change?
What about your deductible?
Are you going to pay something different when you see a specialist or go to the hospital?

Those are the kinds of changes that can make a difference in what you actually spend on healthcare next year.
And if you look at yours and think, “I have absolutely no idea what I'm looking at,” that's okay too!
