If you don't have the funds to cover an emergency, borrowing money only makes the situation worse. Then you also have to figure out how to pay that money back.

A credit card is not protection for the unexpected. A home equity line of credit is even worse because it puts your family's home at risk.

Using cash from an emergency fund is a much better way to weather the storms.

If you are having trouble getting motivated to make a needed change, Dr. Henry Cloud suggests "playing the movie forward".

We tend to avoid challenges if we can put them off for another day. But what about when you look into the future? Will what you are doing today get you where you want to be a year from now? 5 years from now? Or will it be worse?

Does that make things seem hopeless? It's not. But you can use that painful feeling to motivate yourself toward true change.

Did you know that neither is inherently good or bad?

Spenders may be naturally spontaneous and generous people, while savers may be good at preparing for the future.
