Answer: According to a study by The Office Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA), policyholders with public adjuster representation lead to higher average payments, sometimes considerably higher. The study offers an example of the average compensation for 2005 hurricane claims in FL. They were 747% higher when a public adjuster was involved.

"After Michael hit Panama City Beach, we enlisted John Stephens as our Public Advocate. The condo roof failed and water poured into our unit. The insurance company didn't recognize tile damage to our floors (2000 sq ft!) and other damage to the kitchen, bathrooms, and crown moulding. The insurance company provided a check for $7700. John and his team identified $62,000 in damage. After months of stalling by the insurance company, John had us add a lawyer to speed up our claim. He consistently told us, it may take time, but we will get you the money for damages incurred. In the end, one year after filing, we received an additional $41,400.
