It’s escrow shortage season! If you closed in 2025 and got a letter saying you have an escrow shortage—don’t panic.

This usually doesn’t mean:
• Your interest rate changed
• Your lender added fees
• Someone messed up at closing

Most often it’s taxes + insurance adjusting (taxes can reset after a sale, insurance premiums rise, and new construction can get reassessed higher after year one).

If your servicer paid out more than projected, they’ll:
• Collect the shortage
• Adjust your monthly payment going forward

You typically have options: lump sum, spread over 12 months, or sometimes a mix.
