Our Story

I am from Chicago and I am the youngest of two children. I earned my BA in Sign Language Interpreting and a MS in Legal Studies. I have been married for 25 years. I became a stay home mother for 12 years. Being a stay home mom was wonderful I was able to teach my children not only in their studies for school but for life. I had taught them how to become leaders and have morality guide them. I was a volunteer for Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts. I was a chaperone on field trips for my children school; I am a involved parent. I learned how to schedule, budget, coupon, get out of debt, and many more things.

The problem with being a stay home parent is that there is no income, savings plan or retirement plan set up for you. One day I received a letter from Social Security (this no longer happens) stating that for my retirement I will have $300 a month for the rest of my life. How can anyone live on that now let alone in the future. I did not know what to do I felt helpless and hopeless. What did I do about it? I became a financial professional and gained a proper education of how money works. Now I am on a mission to ensure that everyone has a proper education for their future.

I grew up on the south side of Chicago. I am the youngest of 6 children. Growing up people would say get with the utility companies and you will have a job for life with good benefits and a pension. I listened and I have been in with the utility companies for 20 years. I was working 10 to 12 hours a day at my job. Working all these hours made it difficult to spend time with my family.

With the ever changing corporate world there is no longer a guarantee of a job for life. I went through 5 layoffs because of corporate downsizing. I have been doing more work with less people. Six years ago our company announced that the plant was closing. I was also informed that if I wanted to keep my job I had to transfer to another plant which was in other states. My wife and I decided to take the transfer and we moved out of Illinois and started to make a new life in Texas. Two years after the transfer to Texas I went through another downsizing. I was no longer in a secure career. No one should have to worry when the next downsizing would be or when they will lose their job.
