Calling all Tax Professionals I’m open to your tax position?
Kicking off the first day of Black History Month with a fun tax twist! We're drawing parallels between filing statuses and our favourite .
Consider:
A. Single - " "
📺 Think of the beloved character Khadijah James from "Living Single." Independent, thriving on her own, without dependents, much like the single filing status – it's for individuals who are not married and do not qualify for any other filing status.
B. Married Filing Jointly - "Black-ish"
📺 Picture Dre and Bow Johnson from "Black-ish." They're the classic married couple who file their taxes together. This status usually qualifies for more beneficial tax rates and higher deductions – "together" being the operative word, even in the tax world.
C. Head of Household- " "
📺 Remember James and Florida Evans juggling to manage their three kids on a tight budget? After James's sad passing, Florida could have opted for the 'Head of Household' status. It's specifically designed for single parents or those who pay more than half the costs of keeping a home for themselves and a qualifying person, offering more deductions than filing as 'Single'.
D. Married Filing Separately- "Martin"
📺 Recall when Gina left Martin for a dream job? While she's still part of the power couple we all love, she may consider the "Married Filing Separately" (MFS) status when tax time rolls around. Opting for MFS lets Gina take charge of her solo income and potential state-specific deductions
Question: What other filing status could Florida Evans use? Yvonne Cobb
