I've called on several Union families, and want to express that Supplemental insurance is not a scam. Unfortunately, there are 'bad actors,' out there as in any industry. But, for those that listen and educate themselves, know different.
Here is a cautionary tale that just happened this week, a lesson that I hope will translate into your action to: get your Will done, pick up a supplemental product, and make sure your Ohana is protected. This isn't expensive, only a few dollars a month to save you from this situation:
Team — I want to share a real lesson from this week.
I had a client who did everything right on paper. They had life insurance and supplemental coverage that would have paid tax-free money if someone was sick or injured.
The life insurance was over $1 million.
The critical illness policy was $20,000.
The husband controlled the finances.
He stopped paying the supplemental policy three months ago and the life insurance 8 months ago because he didn’t think it was going to happen. It didn’t feel urgent. It didn’t feel important yet.
He died suddenly of a heart attack in the hospital.
Because the policies were not in force, the family is left with absolutely nothing.
No life payout.
No critical illness money.
No financial cushion.
Now his wife is facing the loss of her husband and the loss of everything they built together. I had to call the financial advisor and explain what happened — and honestly, I wanted to cry.
**This is the part of our job that people don’t see***
This is why what we do matters.
This is why “I’ll think about it later” is not harmless.
This is why we push — with care, compassion, and education — even when it’s uncomfortable.
Our job is not just to sell policies.
Our job is to protect families from moments they never see coming.
Please let this be a reminder:
Payments matter.
Coverage only works if it’s in force.
“It won’t happen to me” is the most expensive belief there is.
Supplemental and life insurance are not optional — they are foundational.
Lead with empathy.
Educate clearly.
And never underestimate the impact of the conversations you’re having every single day.
What we do saves families — even when they don’t realize it yet.
