Spring is almost here, so it's time to Spring into Action! Essential spring home maintenance includes cleaning gutters, inspecting the roof for winter damage, and servicing the HVAC system for warmer weather. Also, be sure to test your smoke detectors. Then enjoy this warmer weather. 😊

Below is an email received from a member of my mom's email group:

Hi folks. I’m at the Evergreen School food pantry packing boxes. Amongst the volunteers we realized that many of us might be turning down free turkeys at the grocery store because we have one and/or don’t have more room.

There are families that would be so grateful for a turkey. Please bring any to the main office at Evergreen Middle School during school hours tomorrow, next Monday or Tuesday. Or call Augusta Bowden at (503) 329-2646.

Any donations (shelf stable food, clothing, gift cards) can also be brought to the main office during school hours.

Pantry boxes are built every two weeks. Turkeys and the following would help this week and Monday/Tuesday next week.

I've been very concerned about the suspension of SNAP food benefits beginning Nov. 1st which was recently announced by the President. Due to this and the reality that members of our community - even those who have gone through the long, expensive process to become documented - are frightened to leave their homes, I am hosting a food drive. Donations will be delivered to Centro Cultural and St. Vincent del Paul.

I invite you to support this effort by delivering non-perishable food items to my office where a collection box will be placed beginning Monday, Oct. 28th.

Looking for something fun to do today? The La Strada Chalk dei Pastelli Art Festival in downtown Hillsboro is a great activity! The art is amazing; there is also lots of live music. Many (if not all) booths have kid activities, too!
