The first six months are the hardest! I spoke to Nick - a truck driver with 10 months of experience about his journey in the first year of his trucking career. He is following his grand father's footsteps. He just started to work for Vista Trans - finally making good money - unlike the previous jobs.
It was a challenge to find a job the first 6 months but now he feels like he found his home.

Driver shortage - the cuase for autonomous trucks?
For years we've heard that autonomous trucks are needed because of a truck driver shortage.
So I asked Thomas Wasson, Enterprise Trucking Analyst at FreightWaves, a simple question:
"Is there really a driver shortage?"
According to Thomas, the trucking industry doesn't have a driver shortage. It has a turnover problem.
If a carrier loses 95% of its drivers every year, it has to constantly hire just to stay the same size. That's not necessarily a shortage of drivers. It's a retention problem.

I didn't know DAT offered this!
Most owner operators know DAT as a load board.
What I didn't realize is that DAT now has built-in factoring right inside the app.
No long-term contracts, competitive rates, and funding as soon as 15 minutes after load delivery.
For small carriers, keeping cash flow moving can be just as important as finding the next load.

At a truck stop I spoke to Kyle - a truck driver who has been 20 years behind the wheel. His previous job was a mortician - now he's on the road and he loves the job. Especially driving his 10 speed Peterbilt 389 truck!

No EGR on the International S13 diesel engine!

Backing still hard even after 5 years of trucking!
One of the best pieces of advice I've heard for new truck drivers:
Don't rush.
This driver has been behind the wheel for 5 years and says he still practices backing whenever he gets the chance.
A few extra minutes of practice can save a lot of stress later.
At the end, I asked why he chose Artur Express, and his answer was simple:
