Recently, I sat in on a presentation by PA MEDI, the free Medicare service offered by the State. While I’m grateful that the state realizes that seniors are confused about Medicare, PA MEDI should just be your introduction. The speaker actually told people NOT to go to a broker because we “get paid.” She acted like this is a bad thing.
Yes the insurance carriers pay me. But they all pay me the same so I am not biased in what I suggest.
As a licensed broker, I have taken an intensive insurance course which culminated in passing a grueling, proctored examination. In order to maintain my federal and state licenses, I continuously update my educational CEUs.
I have passed a thorough background check.
Every year I must pay for and study an intensive Medicare course and have to pass with a 90% or higher score.
Each insurance company I represent also gives me a course that I must pass before being allowed to represent them. That’s 12 courses a year.
And my ethics are continuously monitored, at risk of losing my license and livelihood.
NOTE: a volunteer PA MEDI rep has done NONE of the above. And by the way, next January when you have problems getting your medications, that volunteer will not be available to help you. My clients have my cell phone number and are encouraged to call me with any concerns.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate anyone who volunteers to help you. But when you are ready to make decisions, please use a licensed broker. Give me a call. Yes I get paid by the companies (my services are FREE to you) but I have worked hard for that honor.
