Join us at the Manchester Public Library this Friday, April 10th, at 3:30 PM for our next "Kids In The Garden with Meriwether County Farm Bureau," hosted by Office Manager, Denise Todd. This month we will read the book, "Uncle John's City Garden," plant some vegetable seeds of our own to take home, and eat some delicious local strawberries in honor of Strawberry MONTH! Last month, we learned about "edible plant parts" and sorted many kinds of fruits and vegetables for our the monthly AG-tivity. Each month we read a book about agriculture, do an AG-tivity, and taste something grown by Georgia farmers. Hope to see you there!

Thanks to all of our Farm Bureau Members for making Ag Week 2026 a success! We ended this year's Ag Week by donating the book, "I Love Blueberries" to the Manchester, Greenville, and Luthersville Public Libraries. We have enjoyed seeing each of you this week in the office, and hope you have fun sowing your wildflower seeds and planting your squash plants! Also, a big shout out goes to Johnathon Strickland and his new ag class and FFA chapter at Greenville High School. They grew the squash from seeds donated by a MCFB board member, and then the students shared them with our office to give out to our Members this week.

March 2nd through March 6th is Ag Safety Week 2026. We want to remind everyone to watch out for slow moving farm vehicles as Spring planting is upon us! Please practice patience as you encounter tractors, bushhogs, planters, etc. and graciously share the road with our Georgia farmers as they plant the crops that will feed us this year.

We had another GREAT Georgia Farm Bureau Day at the Capitol on February 10th. Thanks to the the nine Meriwether County Farm Bureau members who attended. We would also like to thank Senator Marty Harbin and Representative David Jenkins for meeting with us. Meriwether County Farm Bureau (MCFB) is grateful to be a part of our local community and enjoys interacting with local residents and students to promote agricultural awareness.

One of our popular local ag education programs is a monthly Manchester Library Childrens' Program called "Kids In The Garden." It is led by Office Manager, Denise Todd, and Womens' Committtee Board Member, Tricia Heard. Another popular agriculture awareness program sponsored by Meriwether County Farm Bureau is an Ag Teaching Table at Wargo's Pumpkin Patch in the Fall. Denise highlights a Georgia commodity each year. This past October she gave lessons on Strawberry and Blueberry Farming in Georgia.

MCFB was recognized for its outstanding member programs and agricultural advocacy activities at the 88th Annual Georgia Farm Bureau (GFB) Convention held December 7-9 on Jekyll Island. MCFB received the GFB Rewarding Excellence in Ag Program (REAP) Harvester Award in the organization's small membership division. The Harvester Award is the top award attainable in the REAP Program.

Georgia Farm Bureau President Tom McCall, left, presents MCFB Office Manager, Denise Todd, and MCFB President, Kenneth Murphy, with the award. Congratulations Meriwether County!

Meriwether County's Young Farmers & Ranchers Interest Meeting, which was held on Tuesday, January 6th, was a great success!

Joseph and Sadie Branch, our YF&R Co-Chairs, hosted a fantastic Low Country Boil at the Greenville Baptist Church! We had 20 people attend, including Levi Davis (State YF&R Program Director), Kari Creamer (District 5 Federation Manager), and Stuart Gregg (The NEW District 5 YF&R Chair).

Four of our current YF&R members were there, and we had SEVEN prospective young farmers attend. Many of them told me after the meeting that they were excited to learn more about this group. A few of them said they were shocked to find out that a group like this even exists. They all expressed an interest in joining an organization that was dedicated to supporting young farmers and ranchers as they get started in agriculture.

Special thanks to Joseph and Sadie Branch for planning and hosting this event. They did a wonderful job! We also appreciated having our County Board's President and Vice President, Kenneth Murphy and Jeff Scogin, offer their support and answer questions about our County Farm Bureau Organization in Meriwether.

If you are between the ages of 18 and 35, involved in farming or ranching, interested in agriculture and advocating for Georgia Farmers, and want to learn more about how YOU can join the Meriwether County Young Farmers and Ranchers...
