I think this is important information for anyone getting medications from Canada.
Post by Amanda Brewton, of Ms Medicare.
Let’s clear up some confusion about the new rule affecting medications shipped from Canada and other countries. Some online pharmacies are telling customers that “virtually all prescription-medication parcels will be prohibited from entering the United States” beginning October 22. They are also encouraging people to stock up before that date.
That is not what the rule says.
The rule is intended to strengthen the screening of international packages and stop fentanyl, opioids, and other illicit drugs from entering the country. Trusted Healthcare Alliance fully supports protecting Americans from dangerous and illegal substances. What we do not support is using a new rule to frighten seniors into ordering medication they may not need. We have reviewed the available federal guidance. Nothing we have found says that legitimate, non-controlled medications ordered for personal use will suddenly be prohibited on October 22.
FDA has never guaranteed that every medication shipment will be admitted into the United States. These packages have always been subject to review by FDA and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. FDA may allow certain personal-use shipments, generally involving no more than a three-month supply, depending on the medication, the circumstances, and the documentation provided.
Could additional screening cause delays? Yes.
Does that mean virtually every prescription-medication package will be prohibited? No.
Trusted Healthcare Alliance will continue monitoring this issue and sharing confirmed information as it becomes available. This is exactly why Trusted Healthcare Alliance exists. Healthcare is complicated enough without fear, misinformation, and sales tactics making it harder.
Healthcare has a trust problem. Together, we’re rebuilding it.
