The other week, I provided climbing for Isaac Watson on a high-risk job. An extremely large hickory tree located in a cemetery had split and was in danger of damaging many of the headstones. We worked with Veenstra Crane Services to carefully lift out branch after branch. Many weighed around 4,000 pounds, like the one in the picture here. The 3 sections of trunk in the picture each weighed about 5,000 pounds! It was a large tree!

I spent some time at my parents' house in Pennsylvania, climbing their massive white pine tree. Beside this white pine tree is a young Sugar Maple that will someday outlive and take the place of this pine tree. It was overcrowded, so I trimmed away branches to create space for the new maple tree to flourish in the upcoming years, so it can get well established.

Let me tell you what you're looking at here.... Before you smart people say "tree bark", I'm going to give you a few details. This is an ash tree that I am treating for Emerald Ash Borer. I am highlighting the extremely small plug ports used by this treatment system. (See the second picture where they are circled) They're very hard to see, so it does not detract from the beauty of your tree. Additionally, it has a number of positive qualities for the tree. It leaves no holes in the tree, and I do not have to drill into the actual wood of the tree to inject the treatment.

This oak had a lot of dead wood and almost zero drop zone. No way to get equiptment in...perfect job for climbing...and doing so with incredible caution.

Isaac and I did a double climb today. Here he is spinning a branch away from the house. I am in some tall dying cherry trees that needed to be taken down without damaging the brick driveway or the hemlock trees underneath them.

This large silver maple was being considered for removal because of its significant lean and imbalance over the house. While that concern is understandable, especially with silver maples, my inspection showed that the tree had a strong structure and many healthy years remaining.

Instead of removing it, we used a crane to perform a strategic crown reduction. This helped reduce the weight on the overextended side, lower the risk to the home, and extend the tree's life expectancy.

A properly pruned tree should still look natural when the work is complete. In fact, if you hadn't seen the "before" photo, you might never realize how much this tree was reduced. That's the sign of thoughtful, professional pruning. 🌳

Not my standard job, but still had the standard safety process...good ropes and harness and safety gear....just for the record, I did trim some branches away from the roof while I was up there! 🥳
