Golden VFW Post 4171 Honor Guard

Golden VFW Post 4171 Honor Guard The Golden VFW Post 4171 Honor Guard is committed to offering respectful presentation of the colors and representing our post in the most honorable way.

Our Honor Guard is available mainly in the evenings and on weekends to present colors. We restarted the honor guard in February 2012 in preparation to respectfully honor the fallen for the 2012 Golden Cemetary Memorial Day activities. We practiced marching, firing M1 rifles and folding flags twice a week for the 4 months leading up to the event. In order to ensure that the Honor Guard was not a fi

nancial liability on the Post, we began offering Friday night dinners to raise money and to have fun doing it. Many faces have changed but the mission remains the same, to respectfully present the colors as requested and time allows. Many of our members are younger veterans with full time jobs and families so weekday events are generally difficult but if you have a need for an Honor Guard at a function, we will consider all requests. To request any of the following services, please come to the Golden VFW Post 4171 and fill out a request form, call the VFW at the number listed or contact us via Facebook. We will review the request and get back to you as soon as practical but no longer than 2 weeks. Services available:
Flag presentations - US Flag, POW/MIA flag, Colorado state flag, all branches of the services flags. Rendering of Honors - Firing of rifles (3 shot volley), playing of Taps, folding of casket flag. Parade lead - Parade rifles, US Flag, POW/MIA flag, Colorado State Flag. Our current Honor Guard is made up of Shawn Buckendahl (Captain), Tammy Buckendahl, Zak Bringold, Sean Maloney, Gail Perry and Dave Cook.

Just received a phone call from Tim Smith, the pilot of the American Freedom Fighter jet car asking if we would es**rt them on the track at Bandemere Speedway for the Jet car National races on July 4th. How do you turn down such an awesome request. They are coming all the way from California for this show and we have had the honor of es**rting him onto the track for 2 previous years. They look forward to it as much as we do.

It's Tuesday, and today we begin the process of setting up the 6000+ luminarias with the loading and unloading of 500 boxes of glass jars filled with candles. We could use a few able bodied folks who are free from 11:30a to 1p to help knock this out. If you can help just let me know with an email at [email protected]. We'll be meeting at 11:15a at the Memorial. It would be a great way to stay warm on a chilly Tuesday!!!!
