Our Honor Guard is available mainly in the evenings and on weekends to present colors. We restarted the honor guard in February 2012 in preparation to respectfully honor the fallen for the 2012 Golden Cemetary Memorial Day activities. We practiced marching, firing M1 rifles and folding flags twice a week for the 4 months leading up to the event. In order to ensure that the Honor Guard was not a fi
nancial liability on the Post, we began offering Friday night dinners to raise money and to have fun doing it. Many faces have changed but the mission remains the same, to respectfully present the colors as requested and time allows. Many of our members are younger veterans with full time jobs and families so weekday events are generally difficult but if you have a need for an Honor Guard at a function, we will consider all requests. To request any of the following services, please come to the Golden VFW Post 4171 and fill out a request form, call the VFW at the number listed or contact us via Facebook. We will review the request and get back to you as soon as practical but no longer than 2 weeks. Services available:
Flag presentations - US Flag, POW/MIA flag, Colorado state flag, all branches of the services flags. Rendering of Honors - Firing of rifles (3 shot volley), playing of Taps, folding of casket flag. Parade lead - Parade rifles, US Flag, POW/MIA flag, Colorado State Flag. Our current Honor Guard is made up of Shawn Buckendahl (Captain), Tammy Buckendahl, Zak Bringold, Sean Maloney, Gail Perry and Dave Cook.
