With this new CA program, about 2000 qualified borrowers can get 20% Down Payment Assistance from CA for First Time Homebuyers, (anyone who hasn’t owned a home in the past 3 years.)
The Down Payment Assistance will act as a lien/second loan on the property, meaning you will have to pay it back when you sell the house! CA will take an additional 20% equity of the property’s appreciation. For example if your property appreciated by $200,000 when you sell it, CA will take an additional $40,000 on top off the original 20% they put down. Income limits, credit limits apply.
