One of the biggest Medicare mistakes people make?
Assuming their doctor accepts their plan. 👀

Just because you’ve seen the same doctor for years does NOT automatically mean:
✔️ They accept Medicare
✔️ They accept your specific Medicare plan

There are 3 important provider types you need to know:

✅ Participating Providers
They accept Medicare and agree to the Medicare-approved amount as full payment.
This is usually what you want.

⚠️ Non-Participating Providers
They accept Medicare, but they can charge up to 15% more than the Medicare-approved amount.
That extra cost is called an excess charge.

❌ Opt-Out Providers
These doctors have completely opted out of Medicare.
If you see them, Medicare pays NOTHING — meaning you could be responsible for the full bill.

I’ve talked to so many people who said:
“I just assumed my doctor took my plan.”

Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don’t.
And finding out at the front desk is never a fun surprise.

Before choosing a Medicare plan, always verify your doctors and providers first. Every single one that matters to you.

🚨 I’m going to be straight with you on this one because it matters a lot.

👉 Medicare does NOT cover long-term care the way most people think.

Medicare may cover a short stay in a skilled nursing facility, but only under very specific conditions:
✔️ You must have a qualifying hospital stay of at least 3 days
✔️ Full coverage only lasts for the first 20 days
✔️ After that, you begin sharing the cost
✔️ After 100 days, Medicare coverage stops completely

What most people picture when they think of “nursing home coverage” is called custodial care — help with bathing, dressing, eating, and getting around.

❌ Medicare does NOT cover custodial care.

The average cost of a private room in a nursing home in the U.S. is now over $100,000 per year.

I’ve sat across the table from families who were completely blindsided by this. By the time the conversation happens, options are often limited.

Planning ahead can make all the difference.
