Scammers often target older adults because they may be trusting, helpful, and willing to answer a phone call or respond to a message from someone who sounds convincing.

Common scams include:
📱 Impersonation scams- "I'm calling from your bank."
👩‍🦳 Grandparent scams- "Your grandchild is in trouble and needs money."
👩🏻‍💻 Tech support scams- "Your computer has a virus."
💰 Prize & lottery scams- "You won! Just pay a fee."
💖 Romance scams- Someone builds a relationship and eventually asks for money.

REMEMBER:
🛑 STOP before sending money.
🤔 THINK about whether the story makes sense.
📱 VERIFY by contacting the person or organization using a trust phone number.

💖 A simple conversation today could prevent a devastating loss tomorrow.

🎓Fraud-Free Friday: Watch Out for Financial Aid Scams! 💰

With students heading back to school, it's a great time to be on the lookout for scholarship and financial aid scams. Fraudsters may create fake scholarship or grant opportunities designed to steal personal or banking information.

🚩Watch out for these red flags:
🔴Requests for upfront registration, entry, or administration fees
🔴Applications asking for credit card or bank account information
🔴Websites with little or no information about the organization
🔴"Guaranteed" scholarship offers
🔴Scholarship offers you never applied for

🛡 Protect yourself: Be cautious of unsolicited offers, research organizations before providing personal information, and never pay just to determine scholarship eligibility. When in doubt, check with your school's financial aid office before applying.

A scholarship should help you fund your future-not put your finances at risk.

Today, 1st Bank & Trust was excited to partner with the Fullerton Community Pool and Fullerton Public Library for the Summer Reading Pool Party by handing out free swim towels to help celebrate our 145th Anniversary!!! Lindsey Bialas, Head of Operations, loved seeing so many smiling faces!!!! 😀 We are proud to support the events that bring our communities together.
