Being content is a gift.
Being complacent is a trap.

As a young professional, I’m learning the difference.

Contentment says, “I’m grateful for where I am.”
Complacency says, “I don’t need to grow.”

Scripture talks about being content in all circumstances—but it also calls us to run the race with endurance.
To keep showing up. To keep chasing what we’re called to do.

It’s a balance I’m still figuring out.
Grateful for the season I’m in—and hungry for what’s ahead.

There’s nothing like a fairway that’s cut just right—green, open, and inviting.
And there’s nothing like having the freedom to spend a morning walking down one.

I’ve learned to really appreciate moments like these—not just for the beauty, but for what they represent.

Because for me, it’s not just about playing golf.
It’s about having the freedom to step away from the grind, spend time outside, and enjoy the life I’m building.

Some of my best ideas have come walking down the middle of the fairway.
Here’s to making room for more of those moments.

You’ve built the business.
Now—can it help you step away someday?

When you’re no longer chasing stability, the real question becomes:
How do you turn today’s success into long-term freedom?

I’ve had conversations with business owners who are thriving—
But their entire financial world is still tied to the business.

No clear plan for stepping back.
No clarity on what “retirement” would even look like.
Just a vague hope that one day it’ll all work out.

Here’s the truth:
If you want to step away on your terms, it won’t happen by accident.

That kind of freedom takes intention.
It takes looking beyond growth and thinking about what comes after.

Because building a business is a huge achievement.
But building a life that works with or without the business?
That’s the real goal.

Whether that looks like more time with family or retirement in paradise—
It should be on your terms.

One month, I feel on top of the world. The next, I’m wondering if I missed something.
That’s what running a business can feel like when your income isn’t predictable.

When I started this business, the biggest adjustment wasn’t the long hours or the new responsibilities.
It was the rollercoaster of variable income.

Some weeks feel like a breakthrough. Others feel like backtracking.
Trying to set a budget when your income changes month to month? It’s a mental game as much as a financial one.

But here’s what I’ve learned:
Stability doesn’t come from having the same number every month.
It comes from having a plan that flexes with your business—not against it.

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
And you’re not doing it wrong.

You're just building something unpredictable—with the goal of making it unshakable.

My first job at 16? Building fences in the Tennessee heat.
It wasn’t glamorous—but it taught me everything about hard work.

I worked for a small, family-owned fencing company.
The days were long, the work was tough, and nothing came easy.
But I got a front-row seat to what it takes to run a blue-collar business.

Early mornings. Delayed jobs. Broken equipment.
And still—showing up, figuring it out, and getting it done.

Now, every time I talk to a business owner who’s out there doing it themselves, it takes me right back.

There’s a different kind of grit in this kind of work.
And it deserves a different kind of respect.

If you’ve built something with your hands—or from the ground up—I’d love to connect.
Always appreciate a chance to swap stories with someone who gets it.

I’ve been thinking a lot about time lately.

How fast it moves.
How much of it we trade for money.
And what it means to actually have freedom with both.

For a lot of people I talk to, the goal isn’t to retire at 65.
It’s to have the option not to wait that long.

Because by the time you get there, your money might be ready—
but your body might not be.

Travel, adventure, new passions…
The things people dream about for “someday” often require more energy than they expect.

That kind of independence doesn’t happen by accident.
It comes from making choices today that your future self will be grateful for.

And from regularly asking questions like:
→ What does enough look like?
→ What do I want life to feel like 10 years from now?
→ What am I building—and what’s it costing me?

If you’re thinking about that too, you’re not alone.
More and more people are realizing that financial freedom isn’t just a number.

It’s a mindset.
And a series of decisions—intentional, consistent, personal.

Two months in—and I get it now.
This work is personal.

Every conversation is an opportunity to listen, to learn, and to be a sounding board for someone navigating life and money.

What I’ve learned:
It’s not about having all the answers.
It’s about asking the right questions, creating space for clarity, and being someone people can trust along the way.

I love having purpose in the business I’m building.
Being part of this community means something to me—and it’s a privilege to grow alongside the people in it.

I’m excited to keep showing up, keep learning, and keep helping people take steps toward what matters most to them.

A long weekend off? Much needed.
But now—it’s time to get back to it.

If you’re feeling that post-holiday fog, I get it.
But here’s what helps me reset: remembering what keeps me coming back for more.

For me, it’s the people.
It’s the conversations where someone feels heard.
It’s helping someone take that next step—even if it’s a small one.

Building anything—your career, your finances, your future—takes time.
But when you have a reason behind the grind, it all feels different.

So if you needed the break, good.
Now it’s time to refocus on what matters—and why you started in the first place.

Let’s get back to it.

I was thinking back to my Track days.

My goal was simple: break 5 minutes in the mile.
I trained for months—early mornings, tough workouts, consistent progress.
I was getting closer and closer. My times were dropping. I could feel it: sub-5 was right there.

Then, just before the race I’d been working toward all season, I pulled my hamstring.

Just like that, the goal was off the table.

It was tough to accept. But that experience stuck with me—not because I missed the milestone, but because of what it taught me:

Life doesn’t always follow your plan. But effort is never wasted.

That season built resilience. Grit. Patience.

And now, whether it's life or finances, I try to remember:
Sometimes the finish line moves. That doesn’t mean you stop running.

There’s nothing like a Saturday in Neyland.

The energy. The traditions. The sea of orange.

It’s more than just football—it’s family, memories, and moments you never want to miss.

But let’s be honest: experiences like that aren’t always easy to say “yes” to when money feels tight.
Gas, tickets, tailgates—it adds up.

That’s why you need to have a plan.
A strategy for your money that helps you cover today and still say yes to the things you enjoy.

Whether it’s Neyland on a Saturday, a spontaneous trip, or just peace of mind—you deserve the freedom to enjoy it.

Building a business when you’re young comes with a unique set of challenges—but also some big advantages.

One of the biggest: getting to surround yourself with people who are just as driven as you are.

I had a great conversation with Jackson Keltner this week about what it looks like to build something meaningful at this stage of life.

We talked about vision, discipline, and the kind of mindset it takes to show up every day when you're still figuring it all out.

Grateful for the time, Jackson—and for the example you’re setting.
Commercial Bank and Trust is lucky to have you!

That golf trip with friends?

I’m really glad I went.

The business wasn’t even a thing yet.

But those few days away reminded me what I was really chasing—
freedom, balance, a life worth building toward.

No phones buzzing. No emails.
Just the game, good company, and space to think.

That time didn’t slow me down.
It gave me the clarity and energy to start something new—with real purpose and intention.

Sometimes, the moments before the work begin
are the ones that set everything in motion.

They remind you why the hustle matters.
And why rest is just as important.

What’s one experience that reminded you why you’re building your future?
