Meetings are held monthly on the 2nd Sunday, alternating between locations in Fort Worth & Dallas.

B. hijauvenia

Rhizomatous species begonia from Borneo. Keeps a compact growth pattern and has striking green veins with bright red petioles. Beautiful foliage to have in any collection.

Hello September! We have quite a busy month ahead of us and we’re excited to be out in the DFW plant community. Come visit us at one of the plant swaps to chat about begonias and how to join the begonia society. We will also have our monthly meeting on Sunday, 9/13. Can’t wait to see y’all!

Our September meeting is two weeks away and we are ready! This is our annual leaf swap meeting where members bring in fresh cuttings from their begonia collections to share. We ask that all cuttings are bagged individually and labeled. This meeting is open to everyone, but we are asking for an RSVP so we will have idea of how many plan on attending. We can’t wait to see there!

Last Sunday during our monthly meeting there was a lovely donation brought in for the begonia collection. The donor would like to remain anonymous, but the collection is very grateful for this addition. Here you can see a short video of Glenn Dickerson opening the newly acquired Begonia DS-Wednesday.

Accurate botanical naming is essential within the Begonia community and for maintaining proper horticultural records. Remember this graphic when labeling your personal collection.

We had an excellent meeting yesterday where Jake Defoore took us Back to Begonia Basics. This presentation was perfect timing setting us up for success for the leaf exchange next month. Jake talked about begonia anatomy, classification, and propagation. There were great photos showing exactly where to cut the leaf/stem and also live demonstrations. Thank you members and guests for attending.

Also, a special thank you to Laura(Pink Leaf Lab) and Manny(verdure culture (ver•jr)) for the begonia goodies you brought to share. We appreciate your generosity and support!
