New Boats / Model Activity

A current model worth watching is the Intrepid 35 Panacea / 35 Valor platform. Power & Motoryacht highlighted the 35 Valor on August 25 and noted that it shares its hull architecture with the 35 Panacea, with the Panacea aimed more toward the traditional center-console owner. Intrepid says it is moving toward more common architecture across models.

Yamaha Marine Connected Boat Division Announces Expanded Business and Product Offerings with Skipperi, Creates New Revenue Opportunities for Dealers

Yamaha expanded its relationship with Skipperi, its boat-club platform, giving dealers another way to generate recurring revenue from boat access rather than relying entirely on traditional ownership sales.

That matters because the industry is experimenting with more ways to get people on the water without requiring them to immediately purchase a boat.

Siren 3 Pro Now Standard with Yamaha Digital Electronic Control Outboard Kits.

Connected Boats Are Becoming Standard

This is one of the more important technology developments to watch.

Beginning with Yamaha's 2027 program year, Siren 3 Pro will be included as standard equipment with Yamaha Digital Electronic Control outboard kits. Owners will be able to monitor engine hours, maintenance reminders and service records through the connected system.

Recall on Bertram Center Consoles.

RECALL CENTER-CONSOLE OWNERS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT

Bertram owners, this is one recall that should not be ignored.

Certain Bertram 28CC, 34CC and 39CC center consoles from model years 2021–2026 may be affected by an issue involving a fuel-tank seal and ignition protection.

Why does this matter?

If a fuel-system seal does not perform correctly, gasoline or fuel vapors could enter an enclosed area. When ignition protection is compromised, a spark from an electrical component could potentially ignite those vapors.

The current U.S. Coast Guard campaign is listed as Recall No. 26MF0182. The official listing identifies the Bertram 28, 34 and 39 center consoles, as well as the 28XC, and currently shows 102 potentially affected boats.

If you own one of these models:

• Locate your boat’s Hull Identification Number
• Contact Bertram or an authorized Bertram dealer
• Ask whether your specific boat is included
• Do not ignore any gasoline odor
• Do not attempt to repair or reseal the fuel system yourself

If you smell fuel, shut down electrical equipment, avoid creating sparks, ventilate the area and have the boat professionally inspected before operating it again.

This is exactly why preventative inspections matter. A boat can look perfect from the outside while a serious safety issue is developing below deck.

Technology is making center consoles easier to operate.

Joystick control.
Autopilot.
Position holding.
And now we're moving toward automated docking.

I'm all for technology that makes boating safer and easier.

But here's where owner education matters:

Don't let automation replace ability.

What happens when you lose a sensor, GPS signal, network connection or electrical power?

Every owner should still understand wind, current, engine control and how their boat reacts around the dock.

Use the technology.

Just don't become dependent on it.
