As we wrap up another tax season, I find myself reflecting on how far we’ve come.

Thanks to mail and email, I don’t sit face‑to‑face with as many clients as my dad once did—but the relationships he built, and that we continue to build, still mean everything to me.

The photo below shows Dad’s very first laptop from 1988 next to my current one. The client and I took a walk down memory lane, remembering how Dad once sat at this very table with that laptop, preparing their tax return.

So many clients shared this year how much they miss him—it was incredibly touching.

Growing up, my father had a quirky little tradition: every December in Florida, he’d take a walk until he found a telephone pole marked “1040.” He claimed it was his official signal that a good tax season was on the way - some sort of accountant’s good‑luck charm.
I haven’t quite found my own modern equivalent, but this photo marks our very first deposit of the year, and I’m officially declaring it my 2026 “1040 sighting.”
Box checked. Good tax season unlocked.
Dad’s happily retired now, but I’m pretty sure he’d approve - though knowing him, he’d still drag me out to find a real telephone pole, just to make sure we didn’t jinx anything.
