March 5, 2026 marks the 84th birthday of the United States Navy Seabees.
The Seabees were established on March 5, 1942, during World War II to provide a unique capability: highly skilled construction professionals who could build critical infrastructure while operating in combat zones. From airfields and bridges to ports and bases, the Seabees have played a vital role in every major conflict since their founding.
They are widely recognized for their expertise in rapid runway repair, a capability that proved essential during the Vietnam War and continues to be critical to military operations today.
The Marc Sigmon Insurance Agency is proud to recognize that our founder and CEO, Marc Sigmon, had the honor of serving alongside the Seabees from 2002 through 2004.
During that time, Marc deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (2002–2003) and less than a year later deployed to Fallujah, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom II. While serving overseas, he worked as the Communications Lead for the Seabee Engineering Reconnaissance Team (SERT).
During his service, he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal.
Marc has always had a deep respect and appreciation for the men and women of the Seabees and the mission they carry out around the world.
If you served with the Seabees or know someone who did, share your story in the comments.
The Seabee motto says it best:
“We Build. We Fight.”
Happy 84th Birthday to the U.S. Navy Seabees, and thank you for everything you continue to do in service to our country.
