For my friends with Medicare and those who might have parents on Medicare. Do yourselves and your family a favor. Do business ONLY with those people you trust! There are plenty of great agents at reputable companies who will be glad to sit down with you or facetime on the computer to explain what you have, what you need and the steps to make sure you have the best coverage for yourself. The 800 numbers with celebrities who were famous in the 60s or 70s are trying to steer you to agents in a cubicle far away from you. Further, those people might be next to impossible to reach, if you need assistance a few months from now.
15 minutes might be ok for car insurance because if it you don't like it, you can change back the next month in most cases. Medicare is different. I'm imploring every senior to get with a trusted advisor to help with their Medicare. In my opinion it's too important to be trusted to a stranger at some 800 #. Stay safe everyone.

I just googled to see if the government shutdown is having an effect on new Medicare cards being mailed out. It is!
So, if you're anticipating getting a new Medicare card, Parts A &/or B it is likely going to take longer than anticipated.

I want to let you know about agents who violate the Center for Medicare Services rules regarding unsolicited calls. They'll make phone call saying that they can "Save you money!" on your Medicare plan.
1. Right now, you need a Special Enrollment Period in order to be enrolled into another plan OR you might qualify for another specialized plan through a chronic condition.
2. These agents could be in a state many miles away and often are more interested in making money than actually looking out for your best interests. Yes, you might be able to save money short term but if you get sick or hurt, it might cost you a lot more that you saved with other expenses.
3. If you have an agent you trust, call him/her to make sure that plan this stranger is recommending would be a good fit. It's very likely, your current agent can sign you up on that plan if it's the best one for your situation.
