🚜 Tennessee Farm Update 🐄
Washington just opened a 90-day extra quota of imported lean beef trimmings starting Sept. 1 to cheapen grocery hamburger. Watch the cull-cow side if you run cattle; don’t bank on a big fed-cattle rally. The good news: 2026 ARC/PLC reference prices are up 10–21% and more base acres are in play — call FSA this week and lock your elections. Farm Bill is still stuck in the Senate, so don’t wait on new programs that aren’t signed yet. 🛑
Nashville’s more useful right now. TAEP cost-share applications run Oct. 1–7 (hay, livestock, row crop, poultry, diversification). Agricultural Enterprise Fund for value-added/processing closes Oct. 10. New TN-raised meat labeling is worth a look if you sell direct. Hemp/THCA is already banned here — if that was extra income, keep pivoting. Foreign-land rules got tighter on land, minerals, and water, so get a clean title review before you sell or partner. 📝🌾
Do this today: FSA on 2026 acres, mark those October deadlines, pad fertilizer and diesel budgets, and keep harvest records tight. Cows and combines don’t wait on Congress. ☕🚜
Money tip while you’re at it: farm income jumps around, so treat government payments and a good crop year like bonus money. Park some in an emergency fund first, then max any retirement match if you’ve got off-farm work or establish your own accounts. Talk with a licensed financial professional, we know a guy 🤔 — insurance, equipment debt, and taxes all pull from the same pot. A short sit-down now beats a scramble at tax time.
