STORM TIPS
Here are ten storm safety tips to follow:
1) Finish your preparedness activities early on Monday and stay informed by monitoring the storm media.
2) Have a well-stocked Family Disaster Kit in the event you lose power or are isolated for a number of days. Here's a link to a MEMA suggested list of items: http://www.mass.gov/eopss/agencies/mema/ready-massachusetts/emergency-kit.html
3) Plan to stay safely indoors throughout the course of the storm, beginning Monday later afternoon night and through Wednesday morning
4) Elevate articles in your basement that could be damaged from even minor flooding.
5) Clear clogged rain gutters outside. Providing clear drainage will help prevent misdirected flooding.
6) Ensure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have fresh batteries and are operable.
7) Expect that we will lose power and charge up your cell phones. Check and report power outages using links above.
8) If you use a generator, be sure to operate it outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. Be sure to shut off your main power supply to your home when running your generator.
9) Keep your vehicles fully fueled.
10) Assume any wire that is down to be a "live" electrical wire, don't go near it but rather report it
