A fixed indemnity insurance product works differently than other insurance you might have had in the past that helped pay for health-related costs. Fixed indemnity insurance pays a set benefit per specified medical expense, as opposed to a share of the total covered costs after a deductible, which is an approach you might be used to.

So how does that actually work? A look at an example might help you understand the benefits of this type of fixed indemnity plan.

Example:
Hector likes to say he’s “never” sick, so it takes 4 days of a worsening sore throat and a persistent headache to get him to seek help. He doesn’t have a regular doctor, so he finds the nearest Urgent Care facility with a doctor he can see on short notice and explains how he’s feeling.

The doctor examines his throat and checks his neck for inflammation. She doesn’t like what she sees, so she swabs Hector’s throat and sends the swabbed sample for testing. The result that comes back is what she expected, strep throat. The doctor prescribes a generic antibiotic to battle the infection, which Hector fills at a nearby pharmacy.

This is what Hector would receive from his benefits

Urgent care visit pays $100
Outpatient test pays $200
Generic antibiotics plan pays $20

Total $320

The cost of that visit is $500. Hector is in for a surprise. The Urgent care facility was in the limited indemnity network so he receives a 50% discount off his services bringing his balance to $250. Hector would pay this and be reimbursed by the limited indemnity plan the $320. Leaving him with a surplus of $70 in his pocket.

The premiums on these plans can be very affordable and usually work best when other supplemental benefits are included such as accident or critical illness coverage.

Yet another gut punch to healthcare coverage thanks to the Biden Administration. If you or anyone you know has a short term medical plan it might be time to consider a long-term option like Medishare to get away from Obamacare or ACA plans.

This rule will force alot of people to go to the marketplace to pick up coverage and pay way too much for little benefits.

limiting coverage to 90 days seems like a way to funnel everyone into the ACA healthcare system.

Another blow to health insurance coverage. If you are anyone you know currently has Allstate or National General as their health insurance carrier they may want to consider looking for alternative coverage with a company like United Healthcare who is one of the strongest carriers in the country.

Their profits are tanking on the health and benefits side so they are looking to sell which will most definately affect your coverage and rates.

Insurer Allstate Corp on Wednesday posted a quarterly profit, compared to a year-ago loss, on the back of higher premiums in its property-liability unit.

If you are currently covered by BCBS of TN and are happy with your CHI memorial provider you may consider looking at alternative healthcare coverage options.
