I spent 21 years catching compliance mistakes that cost companies millions.

And the entire time, I kept thinking:
Small businesses need this protection even more than corporations — but no one is helping them.

So I created Before You Do Business™.

My mission is simple:

To help small business owners do business smarter by protecting them from expensive, preventable mistakes — starting with the contracts, vendors, and agreements that can make or break you.

Here’s what I do: • I spot the red flags you don’t know to look for
• I catch the money leaks before they cost you thousands
• I help protect your biggest investment — your business

Because every bad contract, sketchy vendor, or vague agreement costs you money and peace of mind you’ll never get back.

And you deserve better than that.

You didn’t build your business to lose it over something preventable.

Before you do business, it’s not just about having a contract — it’s about having a clear one.

I review and strengthen both contracts businesses create and contracts they’re asked to sign.

These are the issues that show up most often, and they’re rarely obvious at first glance.

Clarity is what keeps agreements from becoming expensive lessons.

What you don’t question is what costs you later.

Pausing doesn’t mean you’re unsure.
It means you’re intentional.

In business, urgency is often used to push decisions before questions are answered and protections are in place. The strongest leaders don’t rush — they slow down long enough to understand what they’re agreeing to.

If something feels off, that’s not hesitation.
That’s discernment.

This community exists as a reminder that you’re allowed to ask questions, read the fine print, and protect what you’re building — without apology.

Take your time.
Your business is worth it.

A client came to me last week after losing $15,000.

She hired a “marketing agency” to manage her social media.
Nice website. Professional proposal. Everything looked legitimate on the surface.

One red flag she didn’t catch: they required 100% payment upfront.
$15,000. “Trust us—we’ve worked with hundreds of clients.”

She paid it.

Month 1: “We’re working on strategy.”
Month 2: Three posts. Total.
Month 3: Silence.

When she asked for a refund?
“Check your contract. All sales final. No refunds for any reason.”

$15,000. Gone.

Here’s what a 10-minute contract review process would have flagged immediately:

❌ “All sales final” clause (never acceptable for services)
❌ 100% payment upfront (should be milestone-based)
❌ Vague deliverables with no scope
❌ No performance metrics
❌ No termination clause

This wasn’t bad luck.
It was a missing review step.

I catch issues like this every day in compliance audits.

If you’re about to sign something—vendor contract, service agreement, onboarding doc—send it to me first. Even a screenshot. I’ll tell you what to look for before money moves.

Because $15,000 lessons are expensive.
Better to catch it before you sign.

Listen To Your Gut:

When someone rushes you to sign, pay, or commit without giving you time to think — it's time to pause.

Pressure sounds like:
• “This price ends today.”
• “We need the deposit now.”
• “Other clients are waiting.”

Urgency is often used to stop you from asking questions.

If something feels rushed, that feeling matters.

Have you ever felt pressured into a decision you later regretted?

Good onboarding isn’t just about getting started...it's about knowing when to pause.

When projects change, boundaries protect your time, your money and your sanity.

Clear expectations help prevent awkward conversations later.

This is my Habit #4 in my Good Onboarding series.

Habit #3: Have a repeatable onboarding system.

Most business problems don’t start with bad intentions —
they start with unclear processes.

A solid onboarding system should mean:

• You’re not relying on memory or inbox searches
• Nothing important gets skipped or rushed
• Everyone knows what happens next — including you
• Clients feel confident, not confused
• You can answer “Where are we in the process?” without guessing

If you can’t clearly explain: – what step you’re in
– what’s already been completed
– and what still needs to happen

your onboarding isn’t protecting your business.

This is what I help businesses build — before problems show up.

Good Onboarding Habits –
Habit #2: Verify Before Agreeing

One thing I’ve learned over time is this:
not every paying client is actually a good fit — and that doesn’t make anyone “bad.”

It usually just means something wasn’t clarified, verified, or slowed down early enough.

When verification gets skipped, the issues don’t show up right away.
They show up later as: • misaligned expectations
• uncomfortable conversations
• work that feels heavier than it should
• time spent fixing things that could’ve been avoided

Verification isn’t about being suspicious or rigid.
It’s about being intentional.

Taking a little extra time up front to confirm details, understand the full picture, and ask the right questions helps everyone move forward with clarity and confidence.

In my experience, prevention is almost always easier — and less stressful — than damage control.

This habit is especially helpful for: • service-based businesses
• consultants and solo operators
• anyone who’s ever thought, “I should’ve asked more questions first”

If you’re curious how strong your current onboarding process is, I’ve put together a free onboarding red flags quiz to help you spot gaps early.

Most small businesses don't run into problems because they're careless.

They run into problems because they onboard too fast — without vetting, without structure, without clear expectations.

I help businesses slow the process down before mistakes, confusion, or risk show up.

This is for:
• Service-based businesses
• Consultants and solo operators
• Growing teams bringing on new clients
• Anyone who's ever thought, "I wish I had slowed this down first"

Clear intake.
Better documentation.
Smarter onboarding.

Habit #1: Document before you decide.

Most business issues don’t come from bad intent.
They come from assumptions that were never written down.

VERBAL decisions get misremembered.
WRITTEN decisions create alignment — and protection.

This is one of the daily habits I teach business owners to reduce risk before problems start.

If you want a simple way to spot red flags before you pay a vendor or sign an agreement, I put together a free Red Flags Checklist I use when vetting vendors and reviewing contracts.

Burnout doesn’t come from doing too much.
It comes from fixing preventable problems.

Most business losses I see aren’t dramatic — they’re quiet:

🚩 vague payment terms
🚩 unclear scope
🚩 no exit plan

You don’t need more hustle.
You need clearer boundaries before you sign.

I help business owners spot risk early — so contracts work for them, not against them.

No pressure. No legal jargon.
Just clarity.
