Can paying off collections raise your credit score?
So whether or not you pay your collections off is really a personal decision. What FICO is saying here is that paying off a debt in collections won't improve your score. One of the big three credit reporting agencies, Experian, agrees. ... In short, paying debts in collection won't influence your credit score. The harm has already been done when it first appeared on your report. The FICO software does not acknowledge a paid collection, it only acknowledges the collection. You are better off attempting to have it removed. There a various rights you have as a consumer. You have the right to demand certain answers from the collectors that they probably can't answer, or won't answer because it would put them in violation if certain info has been shared with them with out your written consent.
