Event Cancellation Insurance

A lot of events got cancelled this year due to the Pandemic. Some of the event organizers had coverage against such cancellation including apparently Wimbledon.

Wimbledon has reportedly paid $2 million for pandemic insurance over the past decade.

The U.S. Senate and House of Representatives have approved the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act or the “CARES Act.” and the President is expected to sign it. This $2 trillion relief package will quickly inject money into the economy to help stabilize businesses and families affected by the virus outbreak.
A vital component of this package is the “Paycheck Protection Program” that promises to help small businesses and nonprofits affected by the pandemic. Many of affected small business owners and nonprofit organizations, are eligible to take advantage of these loans. A benefit of this program is a forgiveness provision at no cost to the borrower.

A critical software application we use, that is hosted in the cloud was hit by a Cryptolocker Ransomware attack yesterday. Similar software is used by almost all insurance agencies. Different vendors provide this type of software and their hosted versions are managed by professional hosting services which have the technical staff to oversee security risks such as this. I believe the software our agency uses does have all of these security measures in place and it has a large user base. Still, with all of those resources they got hit and it has been more than 24 hours that thousands of insurance agencies across the U.S. have been unable to access this critical data. It is just an indicator of how vulnerable systems are these days and how important it is to plan for such attacks on your business’s and your personal data that you depend on. It also is a reminder about no matter how lucrative and liberating it may sound to have Crypto Currencies ultimately the criminals are going to be the biggest beneficiaries when transactions are anonymous. It is just an easy way for them to monetize their criminal activities and until there is proper regulation of such channels we should be careful in promoting the development and growth of such channels.
