In 1993 in Montana, someone threw a brick through the window of a family that was celebrating Hanukkah (Chanukah) by displaying a symbol of faith—a menorah—in their window. In response, the local paper published a full-page image of a menorah and invited citizens to show solidarity with the victims by displaying the image on their front door or window. For the next three weeks, several thousand homes—of people of all faiths and those with no religious affiliation—publicly displayed the large menorah image as a symbol of their determination to live together in harmony and their dedication to religious liberty.
