Did you know that there are three main avenues to acquire health insurance in the United States?
♦️Marketplace coverage, also known as Obamacare.
♦️Private pay or group plans.
♦️Sharing, ministries or sharing plans.
Each one of these has their own strengths and setbacks. For example, Marketplace plans, acceot everybody under the age of 65. Some qualify for a subsidy, which is help with paying your premiums every month provided by the government. A subsidy is based on your ZIP Code, your income, and your household size. you can enroll in these only once a year, unless you qualify for a special enrollment period. (If you have questions about that, please send me a PM.)
Private pay plans, also known as PPO plans, have far less network restrictions and you can see just about any doctor that you please without needing a referral. You can purchase these plans through work if you don’t miss the enrollment window. You can also purchase some of these plans on your own on terms that meet your schedule and your budget. They usually have options from 3 to 36 months. With these you do have to go through medical questions, also known as underwriting.
Lastly, there are sharing ministries. They’re a lot of good ones out there as well as a lot of bad ones. It’s important to remember when considering these plants that you ask your agent what their coverage is like. Or if you have somebody that you know that uses these ask them for their feedback. They are great for covering major life events, such as a surprise critical or terminal illness, births, and so on.
I have personally used good and bad sharing ministries. The birth of our daughter cost $25,000 and we were out only $300. Conversely, I have used a not so great ministry and we are still paying on that bill. We used fantastic marketplace plans, and not so fantastic marketplace plans. It’s crucial to speak to your agent and to get their feedback before making a decision and putting these plants into place.
