Did you know you can get a free ride in Barton, Bates, Camden, Cass, Cedar, Dallas, Henry, Hickory, Jasper, Morgan, Polk, St. Clair, and Vernon counties? This is a great program to help people out!!
Some people say there are already plenty of ways to find a ride. If that's true, then why do we hear all the time, "I don't know what I would have done without a ride from Transit!"
Yes, some areas have options for non-emergency medical transportation, but those options often don't work for a lot of people. If someone needs frequent medical visits, has appointments far away, or doesn't quite qualify for insurance that covers the cost of that transportation, the cost to the individual can be greatly unaffordable.
Sometimes, the destination isn't even on the route of other transportation services.
And many people need rides for more than just medical appointments! They need to stop by the pharmacy, go grocery shopping, or make other important stops.
In fact, typically less than half of our rides are for medical appointments. The rest are for shopping, classes, work, and more.
Transportation options are limited, and addressing the need in rural communities is challenging due to the distance of spread-out communities. But a volunteer driver network is making a difference! It is a cost-effective way to address this vital need.
NEW ride requests pour in daily, and every day we hear heartfelt cries of “thank you so much!”
