This space will become the new home for our incubators, brooders, and chick raising operation. There are still a few things to finish before winter, but it’s exciting to finally see everything starting to come together.

The goal is to create a safer, more efficient system that allows us to hatch and raise birds right here on the farm while keeping predators out and simplifying daily chores.

One step at a time, but we’re getting closer.

These are the most important 3 days of incubation. 🐣

Humidity becomes critical during lockdown. Too dry and chicks can struggle to hatch. Today we’re getting everything ready and then… we wait.

Would you hatch your own chicks or buy them already hatched?

My farming style is a little chaotic…

but I think nature kind of likes it that way 😂

This area of the farm has:
• swales
• ponds
• wild strawberries
• willow
• cattails
• snapdragons reseeding themselves
• herbs
• flowers
• vegetables
• fruit trees

Some of it was planned.
Some of it just… happened.

And honestly, some of the best things on the farm came from letting nature participate in the design.

Also, we need help naming our satellite property 👀

A month ago this area was basically grass covered with burlap because we didn’t have enough compost to fully build the rows yet.

Now phase 2 begins:

* conduit supports
* paracord trellising
* adjustable grip hitches
* pruning for airflow & production

The cinnamon basil is loving this heat too 👀

Caught this male woodpecker hanging out just a few feet away today — no music, no talking, just the sounds of nature doing its thing. The little clicks, bird calls, and the way he pauses to listen… honestly felt peaceful enough to forget about everything else for a minute.

Figured some of y’all might need 60 seconds of calm too. 🌿🐦

Most people let blackberry canes grow wild… but once Prime-Ark blackberries hit around 4 feet tall, we TOP them ✂️🍇

That forces the plant to push side shoots, which means MORE fruiting sites and potentially DOUBLE harvests.

These things are absolute monsters if managed correctly. 👀

🐐 These goats cleared YEARS of overgrowth in about a week.

English ivy, poison ivy, sumac, creeper… they absolutely demolished it all while helping us slowly build silvopasture here on the farm.

Honestly makes me wonder if there’s a better long-term solution than dragging fencing nonstop through rough wooded terrain. Systems like are seriously fascinating to me for regenerative grazing setups like this.

The goats are definitely earning their keep 😂🌱

Trying to finish Cooper Station so we can finally get the chickens out of the barn and free up space for the next stage of the farm…

But while building needs done, planting season doesn’t stop either.

Feels like there are 100 things pulling at once right now, but we just keep moving forward one board at a time. 🪵🐓

This is the real side of trying to build a farm from the ground up.
