April is Medicaid Awareness Month! We should all take some time to learn more about this vital program.

Started in 1965, Medicaid is administered by states, according to federal requirements and is jointly funded. Each state designs their program to provide federally mandated basic services and most states also cover additional services such as prescription drugs, physical therapy and dental care.

Currently there are approximately 68 million people covered by Medicaid in the U.S., including low income adults, children, pregnant women, people with disabilities, veterans, and more than 7 million seniors. 18 - 20% of Medicare beneficiaries also have Medicaid coverage.

Don’t forget to file form 1095A along with your taxes to reconcile the tax credits you received in 2025. This is a requirement or else you will not be eligible to continue receiving tax credits this year.

I just want to remind people that our congress men and women are there to help us if we can’t accomplish something within a government agency ourselves. I had a client situation arise in which we were unable get it resolved simply by calling Medicare. We spent over an hour on the phone and were not confident the resolution would be what we requested. We were told it could be 30 days to process and then still not what we were asking for. So, we contacted Congressman Chris Deluzio’s office and they got right on it. CMS responded in less than 24 hours and resolved our matter to our liking! I can’t tell you how many times clients complain that they are having issues getting something accomplished within the SS administration and when I tell them to contact their local representative, more often than not, these matters are handled quickly and the outcome is in their favor. They want to do right by us or else they will not continue to get the votes. Don’t forget they are there if you are ever in a bind. I am very thankful for Jared’s help at our local office and am so happy we made the decision to contact them. It is like a breath of fresh air when they take care of these types of things. No spinning your wheels. They do the work and have back door access to reach the right people quickly!
