A New Chapter for Palmetto Retirement & Health

We have exciting news to share!

Palmetto Retirement & Health is growing — and we're incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve even more South Carolina families.

Recently, we were trusted to continue caring for the clients of a local agent on the Grand Strand who is slowing down his business as he enters his own golden years. We're honored to carry that trust forward and help these families navigate Medicare and insurance with the same approach we've always believed in: honesty, patience, education, and no hard sell.

And there's another big change around the office…

Heather my wife is officially joining me full-time!

Many of you already know Heather, our Chief Marketing Officer. She's been working behind the scenes with Palmetto Retirement & Health for more than a year. Additionally, in February, she earned her South Carolina Health and Life Insurance license, and now she's bringing her 26 years of experience in marketing and business communications into the business full-time with me to serve you.

More importantly, she brings a genuine heart for helping people understand things that can sometimes feel confusing.

So when you call Palmetto Retirement & Health, you may get Wayne… or you may get Heather.

Either way, you're in good hands.

Our growth isn't about becoming a bigger office.

It's about being able to help more people while keeping the personal service that got us here in the first place.

Medicare can get complicated quickly. A new doctor. A medication change. A letter from your insurance company. A conversation with a neighbor that suddenly makes you question your own coverage.

That's why we're here.

You can still call me directly. We still offer in-person appointments, and we're happy to meet by phone if that's easier.

Whether you'd rather sit down with a glass of sweet tea and a stack of papers or handle everything during a 30-minute phone call, we're good either way.

(And if there happen to be cookies involved, even better. 🍪)

As Open Enrollment approaches this fall, we'll be reaching out to all of our clients to make sure they have the best coverage for their needs for the year ahead.

Praying for the ones left behind that mourn the loss of Officer Christopher DeLong who lost his life today, at the young age of 29 while on duty.

Especially his wife and young children and family and colleagues.

A simple Medicare tip that saves a lot of stress:

Before you book another appointment, ask: Is this doctor or hospital in my plan’s network?

If you have Medicare Advantage, “Do you take Medicare?” is not enough. Ask the office these 3 things:

1️⃣ Do you accept this exact plan name (not just Medicare)?

2️⃣ Do you accept it at this location?

3️⃣ Is the hospital you would send me to in that same network?
Then double-check it yourself in your plan’s provider directory or member app. Networks change. A doctor who was in last year may not be in this year.

If you have Original Medicare plus a supplement, this is usually simpler: most doctors and hospitals that take Medicare are fine. In my 10+ years experience, network surprises are much more common with Advantage plans.

Two other questions worth asking at the same time:

What will I pay if I need a specialist or procedure?
Has anything changed with my medications this year?

I'm here every step of the way to help my clients through these retirement years so they do not have to become a Medicare expert.

Last week we moved our middle daughter to Clemson University to begin her freshman year. Between family life and Medicare questions this time of year, I was reminded how much a simple, clear update can help.

Many of you have been asking about GLP medications and Medicare coverage, including weight-loss questions.

Important points in plain English:

1. Medicare started a temporary GLP-1 Bridge program on July 1, 2026, for some people with drug coverage

2. It is not automatic, and not every drug or person qualifies

3. Diabetes use and weight-loss use are often treated differently by plans

Is calling Medicare's 800 number easier? Maybe.

Is it best? That depends on what you're actually looking for.

Here's something worth thinking about: calling an independent agent like Wayne costs you nothing more than calling that 800 number.

In fact, by law, his help doesn't change your premium one penny.

Same price, either way.

So the real question isn't cost, it's who do you want on the other end of the line to help you with picking a Medicare plan, making a change as your health shifts or as options change?

An 800 number gets you someone reading from a script, most likely a different person every time you call.

Wayne gets to know you.
Your situation, your budget, your health needs, your family.

He sits down face to face with clients all across South Carolina, and he never makes anyone feel silly for asking a question, even if it's the fifth time they've asked it.
