The real estate and mortgage market is notorious for changing overnight. We can go from boredom to frenzy in the blink of and eye, and the reverse can be also be true. Right now, I can promise you we are headed from "things are ok, slow but ok" to "holy cow where did all these people come from?"

Almost every day I get a call from a previous client asking me about these ultra-low VA interest rate offers they receive. And every day I have to be the "buzzkill" and tell them it's a scam.

The companies that are sending out these "unbelievable" refinance offers are mortgage companies with huge call centers (many are even offshore) and what we refer to as "call center desk jockeys" just trying to make their phones ring. It is a bait-and-switch scam and I'm tired of these places taking advantage of our veterans and active-duty military.

Once you call them, they will hound you relentlessly. Don't fall for their unscrupulous ways.

If you have a VA home loan, then there is a good chance that you have already come into contact with unsolicited offers to refinance your mortgage that appear official and may sound too good to be true.

This map helps explain why oil prices haven't spiked despite the latest escalation. Over the weekend, U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said roughly 14 million barrels per day of crude was still moving through the region – about 7M bpd via the Strait of Hormuz and 7M bpd through alternative routes. That continued flow has helped keep prices relatively contained. However, with the Houthis now proposing a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia, that could change. The good news is mediators have proposed a 10-day ceasefire in an effort to get the interim peace deal back on track.
