Last week, I had the privilege of returning to Philadelphia for my second year at the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking.

The week was packed with thought-provoking discussions on leadership, strategy, risk management, and the challenges and opportunities facing the banking industry. One of the highlights was participating in the BankExec simulation, where teams were tasked with making strategic decisions and navigating the complexities of running a financial institution in a competitive environment.

I also had the opportunity to hear Patrick Harker, former President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, share his perspectives on today's economy and financial markets.

Outside the classroom, we enjoyed an evening at Citizens Bank Park. The Padres had carefully pitched around Harper before he finally got a high-and-away offering he could take deep. I'm still not convinced that ball has landed yet.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue learning alongside talented banking professionals from across the country and look forward to bringing new ideas and perspectives back to our team and community.

This morning we had the privilege of attending the ribbon cutting for the National Memorial of Military Ascent in Grafton and what an incredible experience it was!

A huge thank you to Mayor Mike Morrow and everyone who worked to bring this vision to life. This is going to be a truly special place for families, veterans, and visitors for many years to come.

Our family especially loved hearing the stories from Pointe du Hoc, enjoying the live music, and taking part in the military recognition ceremony. Moments like these remind us why community matters.

Proud to be part of a region that honors those who served.

This week at the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking, Wharton Professor Santiago Gallino challenged us to rethink how we make decisions.

Not just the outcomes. The process.
He used NFL 4th down analytics to make the point. The data is clear. Coaches should “go for it” far more often than they do. The math says so. But they punt anyway.

Why? Because we fear the consequences of visible failure more than we value making the right call.

That landed hard in a room full of bankers.
How often do we pass on the loan, the hire, the strategy… not because our analysis says no, but because we’re protecting ourselves from the optics of being wrong?

A good decision process does not guarantee a good outcome. But a bad outcome does not mean you made a bad decision either. The goal is to build a process rigorous enough that you can live with whatever result follows.

Play the probabilities. Go for it when the math says go.

This past week I had the privilege of attending the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking. I walked away with a group of people I genuinely respect that helped me navigate through the BankExec simulator.

Our team, the High Flyers, tackled a full bank simulation together. On paper that sounds straightforward but in practice, it was anything but. We made decisions under pressure, debated strategy, hit walls, and more than once had to stop, recalibrate, and find a new path forward as a group. Sound familiar? It should, because that is Tuesday at any bank in the country.

What made it worthwhile was the people sitting around that table. We did not always agree. We challenged each other and we pushed back at times.

However, it was a great reminder that we each brought something different to the table and that each perspective had value.

Thank you Chad, Brett, Hanaa and Gurbachan for sticking it out even when we disagreed!

What started as a volunteering event became a great time networking with others in the community. Hats off to the Collinsville Food Pantry for a very successful Empty Bowl event yesterday.

It was great to see so many come out and support this cause!

I recently had the opportunity to speak at the Granite City Township Senior Center as part of a monthly workshop hosted by Faith in Action.

In recognition of Financial Literacy Month, we focused on fraud awareness and what to watch for. The group brought great questions and engagement throughout the session.

I also caught the tail end of their chair yoga session, which looked like a lot more fun than fraud prevention.
