That Medicare letter arriving in September? Don’t throw it away!

If you have a Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, you should receive an Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) from your plan.

This notice explains changes coming to your plan in January, including things like:

• Coverage
• Costs
• Benefits
• Other important plan details

Why does it matter?
Your plan can change from one year to the next. What worked for you this year may not be the same next year.

Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period is October 15–December 7, making this a good time to review your ANOC and understand what’s changing.

📬 **Got a Medicare plan change notice in the mail? Don’t ignore it.**

Depending on your situation, you may qualify for a **Special Enrollment Period (SEP)** that could give you an opportunity to make a change to your Medicare coverage.

An SEP may apply in situations such as:
• Your Medicare Advantage or prescription drug plan is no longer offered
• Your plan isn’t renewed
• Your service area changes
• Certain qualifying life events, such as moving

⚠️ Not every situation automatically qualifies for an SEP.

If you received a notice about your Medicare plan changing or ending, let's review your situation and your options.

HMO or PPO? 🤔

There is no “one-size-fits-all” answer when it comes to Medicare Advantage. The right choice depends on your individual healthcare needs and preferences.

When comparing Medicare Advantage options, consider:

1️⃣ Your Doctors
Are your preferred doctors, specialists, and hospitals in-network?

2️⃣ Your Medications
Are your prescriptions covered by the plan’s formulary, and what cost-sharing applies?

3️⃣ Your Flexibility Needs
Do you prefer the generally more network-based structure of an HMO, or would you value the additional flexibility a PPO may provide for covered out-of-network care?

🗓️ IMPORTANT AEP REMINDER

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7.

Enrollment for AEP does not begin until October 15. Until then, this is a good time to learn about Medicare Advantage plan types and review your current coverage so you're prepared.

That “money back” TV ad sound tempting? 📺💰

Many of those commercials are referring to Part B Premium Reduction plans (often called a “Giveback” benefit). While saving money on your Part B premium can be a great perk, a lower monthly cost means very little if:

❌ Your primary doctors aren't in the plan’s network

❌ Your specialist copays go up

❌ Your daily prescription medications aren't covered

Before Medicare Annual Enrollment (AEP) starts on October 15th, make sure you look at the whole picture—not just the headline benefit!

Want to see if a Part B premium reduction plan covers your specific doctors and medications? Let’s review your options together!

**Is your doctor still in your Medicare Advantage plan’s network for 2027?**

If you're reviewing your Medicare Advantage plan for next year, don't look at the premium alone.

Your **Annual Notice of Change (ANOC)** arrives in September and explains important changes to your plan for the coming year. Take a close look at your doctors and other providers, too.

A provider network can change, and the doctor you've been seeing may not participate in your plan next year.

**Before you switch or renew, check your doctors.**

**Out-of-network/non-contracted providers are under no obligation to treat Plan members, except in emergency situations. Please call your plan’s customer service number or see your Evidence of Coverage for more information, including the cost-sharing that applies to out-of-network services.**

What happens if your Medicare Advantage plan’s emergency room is out of network?

In a true emergency, Medicare Advantage plans must cover emergency care, even when the doctor or hospital isn't in your plan's network.

The important thing is simple: don't delay emergency treatment because you're worried about your network.

But understanding your plan's emergency and urgent-care rules before you need them can give you peace of mind.

Medigap does NOT replace Medicare — it helps cover some of the costs Original Medicare leaves behind.

Original Medicare pays its share, and you pay your share. For many Part B-covered services, after you meet the Part B deductible, you generally pay 20% coinsurance. Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) can help cover some of these out-of-pocket costs.

Here's the catch: Medigap only works with Original Medicare, not Medicare Advantage — and not all Medigap plans cover the same things. The details matter.
