The Speaker Who Didn’t Know She Was a Speaker
I almost made Rachel’s mistake.
Rachel was the book coach who didn’t know she was a book coach.
I wrote about her because sometimes other people can see our gifts long before we are willing to name them ourselves.
Today, I almost did the same thing.
A television station contacted me about appearing on a broadcast. During our follow-up conversation, I learned how they found me.
Someone had called the station and told them that I was a phenomenal speaker.
My first thought was:
“But I’m not a speaker!”
And then I remembered Rachel.
I almost laughed out loud.
Here I was, about to deny something that someone else had already experienced.
They didn’t say I could become a speaker.
They didn’t say I should consider speaking.
They had heard me speak—and apparently decided I already was one.
That’s when it hit me:
Sometimes the marketplace recognizes your gift before you give yourself the title.
We can become so accustomed to what comes naturally to us that we don’t recognize it as valuable.
We say:
“I’m just explaining what I know.”
“I’m just helping somebody.”
“I’m just teaching.”
Meanwhile, someone else is thinking:
I would pay for that.
That is one of the lessons behind Ideas to Income Studio.
Sometimes you don’t need to go searching for another idea.
You need to recognize what is already in your hands.
Recognize it.
Name it.
Package it.
Price it.
Take it to market.
Apparently, I’m a speaker.
Who knew?
