A family reached out to me with a question that seems simple on the surface: do we have a cemetery plot? πŸ’™

They'd been referred to me by an estate planning firm out of Alabama. They thought they had a plot β€” but they didn't know how to confirm it, how to find the paperwork, or what to do next. And for most people, that question just... sits there. Because who do you even call?

I know who to call. I know how to track it down. And I know how to make sure that whatever funeral home they work with treats them fairly β€” because I'm their advocate. I don't work for the funeral homes. I benefit from them choosing to work with me, but my loyalty is always to the family.

Every policy I write has to go through a funeral home because this industry is highly regulated. Permits, border regulations, state licensing β€” it all matters. And it's different from Tennessee to Georgia to Alabama to Florida. Most insurance agents are licensed in one market, like a realtor working their neighborhood. I built my practice to work across state lines because families don't stay in one place.

If you've got a piece of paper somewhere that might be a cemetery plot, a pre-need policy, or an insurance policy and you're not totally sure what it means or whether it's still valid β€” bring it to me. That's literally what I do.

You deserve an advocate. Not just a policy.

What you think you have and what you actually have can be two very different things. πŸ’™

This is something I see all the time. A family reaches out and says, "Mom has a life insurance policy," or "Dad took care of everything, we're pretty sure it's pre-funded." And when we actually sit down to review it? Sometimes it was paid up. Sometimes it lapsed years ago. Sometimes the coverage amount doesn't match what they thought it did.

And then there's the pattern I see most often: the husband set everything up, and once he passed, the wife genuinely doesn't know what's there. Not because she didn't care β€” but because it was his thing, and they never sat down together and went through it.

The same thing happens with adult children. Mom and dad handled it. Until they couldn't.

This is exactly why I offer insurance policy reviews. Life insurance, long-term care policies, pre-need policies β€” I can go through all of it with you and give you an honest picture of where things stand.

You deserve to actually know. Not to assume. Not to hope. To know.

If you've been meaning to look at your parent's policies but keep putting it off because you don't know where to start β€” that's what I'm here for. Let me be the one who makes the calls and asks the hard questions so you don't have to.

There's something a lot of families don't know about life insurance and Medicaid. πŸ’™

All life insurance has cash value. But here's the thing: they have to die to use it. And in the meantime, if your parent needs to apply for Medicaid β€” to help cover assisted living, nursing care, or memory care β€” the state can look at that cash value as an asset.

Medicaid spend-down rules require that a person have very little in savings or assets before they can qualify. And that life insurance policy with cash value? It can count against them.

This is where I can help. Understanding what your parent actually has β€” what's protected, what isn't, what needs to be restructured β€” is part of what I do in my reviews.

I know this isn't the kind of thing people want to think about when they're already caring for an aging parent. But I promise you: addressing it before a care transition happens is so much easier than trying to untangle it in the middle of one.

I've walked alongside families through this exact situation. There are options. There are ways to protect what you've worked to set aside. You just have to know to ask.

This is one of those things I tell every family: the earlier you look at the whole picture, the more options you have.

Revocable vs. irrevocable β€” this difference could affect your parent's Medicaid eligibility. πŸ’™

This is one of those things I see families get tripped up on, and it matters more than most people realize.

A revocable pre-need policy can be changed β€” which sounds flexible, right? But here's the problem: because it has cash value, if your parent ever needs to transition into a nursing home or apply for Medicaid, the state can count that cash value as an asset. That means it could affect their spend-down and their ability to qualify for the care they need.

An irrevocable policy, on the other hand, is protected. It's a designated funeral fund β€” the state can't touch it.

I see this happen too often: a family thinks they have everything set up, and then the transition from assisted living to nursing care or memory care happens, and they find out a policy they thought was safe is actually in play.

Long-term care planning means thinking about all the pieces β€” not just what happens today, but what happens when things change. Because with aging parents, things do change.

This is why having someone in your corner who understands both the pre-need side and the elder care side makes such a difference. You need both eyes open.

DM me the word HELP and I'll walk you through it. πŸ’™
