Last weekend, Amanda and her family went to Smith River Fest, an annual festival in Henry County, Virginia, that celebrates the river and the outdoors in general. There are lots of fun activities, including tubing, kayaking, fly-fishing, a mud run, and a petting zoo (pictured!).
We love celebrating the wild beauty that we have here in Virginia!

Last Friday, Amanda, Graham, and some of our clients spent the morning volunteering at the Food Bank packing food to be distributed to members in need in our community. It's always such a joy to see our clients and community members coming together to support the many wonderful people who live here in Charlottesville! It's a great way to get to know each other better while better understanding the needs of our community. As we enter into the weekend, keep your eyes open for an opportunity to spread a little kindness - a small act can go much farther than you realize!

This week Graham attended the Chamber of Commerce Economic Forum. Charlottesville's director of economic development put it well: Regions that consistently grow
1. Know who they are
2. Work well together
3. Maintain disciplines
We are in one of those regions! Stephen Hartka reminded us that Virginia is consistently in the top 10 states to do business, and the Central Virginia region is excelling within the state in attracting great growth-oriented businesses. Pace Lochte from UVA pointed to the talent pool of the University of Virginia, the research $ attracted that fund cutting edge research, great new businesses that have come out of the University, and the ecosystem (e.g. CvilleBioHub, Charlottesville Investment Collaborative, BEACON Kitchen, Go Cook, 434 Accelerator, and many others!) that encourages enterprise to start here, grow here, and stay here. In our region, small businesses (fewer than 500 employees) are the lifeblood, constituting over 97% of businesses!

Graham enjoyed time with treasured friends and family this past week and spent some time behind a surf boat. Who knew you could surf on a lake?
And for the record, he did fall off several times before this photo was taken :D

The Barrett-Johnson family had a lovely time exploring the mountains of Colorado! They even made a bear friend (at which point Kimberlee may or may not have immediately turned around and speedily walked away...⁠no judgment, Kimberlee! We understand!)
