Michael Cox, Partner with New York Life Talent Scout for Future Financial Superstars | Empowering Careers That Empower Lives | Recruiter at New York Life (Fortune 100) How will I be trained?

When considering any career change, many questions may arise, such as: What will be my
responsibilities? How will I be compensated? The answers to these questions depend on many factors. When you sell insurance or financial services, you're not merely selling products, you're developing relationships. Your relationship with your customers, as well as the trust they place both in you and in the products you offer, are critical components to your ultimate success. You'll also make a vital contribution to your community, and when you see the difference that can make, it's more fulfilling than you might imagine. Agents with the Charlotte Office provide very intimate services in the insurance and financial services marketplace. They meet with and know their clients on a personal level. The responsibilities of an agent include: contacting new people, meeting with them and fact-finding to gather necessary information regarding their present situation, providing analysis of situations and, ultimately, presenting solutions that help meet objectives. Some seasons of life are calm.

Others test everything you thought you knew about yourself.

Plans change. Things don’t work out. The path forward gets harder to see. And sometimes, all you can do is keep moving.

That’s resilience.

Not pretending the storm isn’t there.

Not pretending it doesn’t affect you.

But choosing to adapt, persist, find perspective, and keep moving forward anyway.

And one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that resilience doesn’t mean doing everything alone.

Sometimes strength is knowing when to lean on the people beside you. The people who remind you who you are when things get difficult and keep walking with you until the skies begin to clear.

The storms will come.

But storms also pass.

And often, we come out the other side stronger, wiser, and more prepared for whatever comes next.

Tough times don’t last. Tough people do.

Keep going. There’s brighter sky ahead.

Tuesday Money Playbook

We spend decades building a nest egg.

But eventually, the question changes from “How much have I saved?” to “How do I turn what I’ve built into income?”

Where will your paycheck come from? How will it be taxed? What happens if you live longer than expected or the markets don’t cooperate?

Retirement planning isn’t just about reaching a number.

It’s about creating income, flexibility and choices for the life you worked so hard to enjoy.

Some of the most meaningful days in this career have very little to do with business.

This past week, I had the opportunity to bring a group of New York Life agents and partners together to support the Charlie Presler Memorial Golf Tournament, benefiting the Chrysalis Autism Center.

We didn’t just show up to play golf.

We came to support, sponsor, volunteer, and contribute to a cause that deserves our attention.

And yes, a few of us managed to sneak in a round of golf along the way! ⛳

What stood out to me most wasn’t the golf. It was seeing so many people come together, give their time, and support an organization making a difference in the lives of others.

One of the things I appreciate most about my career is the opportunity to work alongside people who understand that success is about more than personal accomplishments.

It’s about relationships.

It’s about community.

And it’s about using the opportunities we’ve been given to make a positive impact.

I’m proud of the agents and partners who showed up, grateful to everyone who helped make the tournament possible, and thankful we could play a small part in supporting such a meaningful cause.

Build a career you’re proud of. Surround yourself with people you respect. And never forget to give back along the way.

If you’re someone who values relationships, community, and building a career with purpose, I’d welcome the opportunity to connect.

Comfort feels good.

But comfort rarely changes us.

Some of the best decisions we’ve made started with a little uncertainty. A new experience. A different direction. Saying yes when staying where we were would have been easier.

And I’ve learned that courage doesn’t always look like some huge, fearless leap.

Sometimes courage is simply being willing to get uncomfortable.

Take the trip.
Try something new.
Have the conversation.
Take the opportunity.
Bet on yourself.
Choose the path where growth is possible, even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.

Having the right person beside you makes those adventures even better.

Because whether it’s travel, career, relationships, or life, there’s a much bigger world waiting when we’re willing to step outside what’s familiar.

Comfort never created the next version of you.

Take the risk. Keep exploring. See what’s on the other side.

This one hits a little differently for me.

When I think about life insurance, I don’t think about a policy. I think about the people we’re working so hard to build a future for.

Protection is certainly part of it. But depending on the strategy, life insurance can also create options, flexibility and opportunities while you’re living.

For me, that’s the bigger conversation.

Protect today. Plan for tomorrow. Give the people you love more possibilities for whatever comes next.

Motivation is great.

But motivation comes and goes.

Some mornings you wake up ready to attack the day. Other mornings, the alarm goes off and everything in you would rather hit snooze.

That’s where standards take over.

The standard says you show up anyway.
The standard says you do the work when nobody is watching.
The standard says you keep your commitments, especially the ones you made to yourself.
The standard says yesterday’s effort doesn’t excuse today’s.

And this goes far beyond the gym.

Your health. Your career. Your relationships. Your leadership. Your finances. Your family.

We all have areas where we know what we should do.

The difference is deciding what you’re willing to make non-negotiable.

You don’t rise to a standard once.

You live it repeatedly until it becomes part of who you are.

Motivation gets you started. Standards determine who you become.

Show up. Do the work. Stay consistent. Raise the bar.

When was the last time you checked your beneficiaries?

For a lot of people, the answer is probably longer ago than they realize.

Retirement accounts, life insurance and other assets can pass according to beneficiary designations, which means an outdated name can create a very different outcome than you intended.

Marriage. Divorce. Kids. Grandkids. A new job. Life changes.

Your beneficiary designations should change with it.

You worked hard to build it. Make sure it goes where you intended.

Sometimes we get so focused on where we’re going that we forget to look up and see how much there is to experience along the way.

Watching kids explore the world is a great reminder of that.

Everything is interesting.
Everything deserves a question.
Everything has the potential to become an adventure.

As adults, I think we could use a little more of that mindset.

Stay curious.
Keep learning.
Dream bigger than what feels comfortable.
Try things you haven’t tried before.
And make memories with the people who matter most.

Growth doesn’t only happen in an office, a classroom, or while chasing the next goal.

Sometimes it happens when we simply get out into the world and experience it.

There’s a big world out there.

Go see it. Be inspired by it. Learn from it. Live it.

And every once in a while… remember to look up.

If I could go back to 25, I wouldn’t tell myself which stock to buy.

I’d focus on building better financial habits earlier.

Save consistently. Invest early. Be intentional with debt. Protect yourself from the unexpected. Think long term.

And one that often gets overlooked when you’re young: protect your insurability while age, health and time may still be on your side.

You can always decide to buy more insurance later. You can’t buy back your younger age or health.

The goal at 25 isn’t to have everything figured out.

It’s to make decisions your 50-year-old self will be glad you made.

What financial lesson do you wish you had learned at 25?

Sometimes the greatest thing we can do for someone isn’t to clear the path for them.

It’s to help them believe they’re capable of climbing it themselves.

This picture captures that perfectly for me.

Sometimes they need a boost.
Sometimes they need encouragement.
Sometimes they need someone to teach them.
Sometimes they need to be challenged.

But more than anything, they need to know someone believes in them.

That’s true with our kids. It’s true with the people we lead. And it’s true with anyone we have the opportunity to influence.

Leadership isn’t about showing people how high you can climb.

It’s about helping them discover how high they can go.

Believe in them. Encourage them. Support them. Teach them. Challenge them.

And when they’re ready, give them enough room to take the shot themselves.

Be the reason someone dreams bigger, goes further, and believes they’re capable of more.
