The federal government shutdown might be over, but the future of enhanced premium tax credits (ePTCs) still hangs in the balance. Congress has not yet voted to extend ePTCs that keep affordable coverage in the hands of millions of Americans.

Early next month, the Senate will have an opportunity to vote to extend these vital tax credits. But even if the Senate votes yes, leaders in the House have not yet agreed to hold a vote.

Millions of Americans are already dealing with higher premiums for Plan Year 2026 as they shop for coverage.

This is our last chance for Congress to extend these critical tax credits before they expire on December 31. Your voice matters more now than ever before.

Here’s a few talking points to help guide your message:

Unless Congress renews these vital tax credits, many of your constituents will lose healthcare coverage. If Congress fails to quickly renew enhanced premium tax credits, your constituents’ premiums could more than double starting January 1st.

This is a bipartisan issue. Polls show widespread, bipartisan support for renewing these tax credits. It's a common-sense decision that protects your constituents.

Attention my BCBSNC under 65 clients!!!!!

This is information from BCBSNC regarding Binder Payment for 2026 plan year.

Binder Payment Requirements:

A binder payment is required when a member renews on a DIFFERENT PRODUCT (on marketplace) than their current year product (e.g., from Blue Advantage to Blue Care, etc.).

Illustration:
* Member is enrolled in Blue Advantage in Greensboro
* Switches to Blue Home with Cone Health

Since the member is changing to a different product a binder payment is needed, and autopay will need to be re-established.

However, in this scenario where:

*Member is enrolled in Blue Care Gold Standard A
* Switches too BlueCare Silver Choice A

Since the member is changing to a different plan but the same product a binder payment is not needed, and autopay will not have to be reestablished.

State of Emergency: Hurricane Erin

Due to the anticipated impacts of Hurricane Erin, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) is allowing early prescription refills to ensure that customers have access to the prescription drugs they need. This applies to Dare County and Hyde County.

Details About Early Refills

Dare County and Hyde County have been declared a state of emergency.
The early refill request must be made between August 17 and August 31, 2025, unless rescinded earlier.
Members should call the number on their ID card if they have a problem trying to get an early refill.
Our early refill policy does not apply to controlled substances.

Now through December 7th. Compare all your coverage options. You could save money, find better coverage, or both! If you decide to enroll in a different option, your new coverage will start January 1.

Good news! Starting in 2025, all Medicare plans will include a $2,000 cap on what you pay out-of-pocket for prescription drugs covered by your plan. Review your plan to make sure it covers your drugs and meets your needs and budget for 2025.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so now is a good time to remind your clients of the importance of scheduling an annual check-up with their P*P if they haven’t already completed a routine exam for the year. According to the American Cancer Society, early detection and treatment has helped significantly reduce the breast cancer death rate among women¹, so encouraging members to prioritize their health could potentially be life-saving.
