It's AEP Eve. 🍂

Tomorrow kicks off one of the busiest seasons of my year.

My planner is ready, and I'm preparing for a whole lot of conversations over the next several weeks.

Not just added the new prescription.

Actually cleaned it up. 👀

Take five minutes this fall and make sure it includes:

💊 What you currently take
💊 The correct dosage
💊 How often you take it
💊 Anything you've stopped taking

Then save the updated version somewhere easy to find.

It's useful for your Medicare review, sure.

But it's also a pretty handy thing to have when a doctor's office asks, "Can you tell me what medications you're currently taking?" and your brain suddenly forgets everything you've ever known. 🤣

One of the scariest pieces of Medicare advice?

“Just get the plan I have. I love mine.” 👻

Your friend may mean well. And their plan really might be great…for them.

But you may have different prescriptions, doctors, healthcare needs, travel habits and priorities.

Their recommendation can be a starting point for a conversation.

It shouldn't be the end of your research.

When it comes to Medicare, I'm much more interested in what works for you than what works for your neighbor.

"$0 premium" can definitely catch your attention.

But no “monthly cost” isn’t the same as free.

What you may each month shouldn't be the only number you look at.

Depending on the plan, you may also have costs like deductibles, copays, coinsurance or prescription costs when you actually use your coverage.

That doesn't make a $0-premium plan good or bad.

It just means the better question is:
What could this coverage cost ME based on how I use it?

Because the biggest number on the brochure isn't always the most important one.

Here’s a Medicare plot twist people don’t always expect:

The pharmacy you use can matter.

With Medicare drug coverage, one pharmacy may be preferred by your plan while another may not be, which can affect what you pay for your prescriptions.

So when you're reviewing your coverage, don't just check your medications.

Check your pharmacy, too. 👀

Especially if you're loyal to your favorite local pharmacy and have no intention of going anywhere else!

It's one of those little details that can make a bigger difference than you’d think.

And those two things don't always mean same coverage.

Medicare Advantage and Part D plans can make changes from one year to the next, including costs, benefits, drug coverage, pharmacy networks and provider networks.

That's why "I like the plan I have" isn't where I stop during a review.

The better question is: Will I still like it next year?

A few minutes spent looking at what's changing can save you from surprises later.
